I though it was about cost. 355 pump not available as a separate unit, with control unit $16k. 360 pump $700. 360 pump with Hill 355 conversion kit, $1100.

    Cost is another bonus.

what I can see is you have a easier to r&r pump the next time it dies as the electric motor is split from the hydraulic pump side of the 360 pump, so you can change the pump without bleeding the system. No gosple just what I have seen looking at people working on later cars with F1s.

our 355 pump is smaller attached to the top of the hyd module all the lines and shift selonoids are on, the adaptor takes the place of our pump, so you csn plumb new presure and return lines to the 360 pump. It nothing crazy from whst I can see.

I feel my pump was on its way out anyway, it would take it almost 26 seconds to prime.

then as soon as it was done about 10 seconds later it would pump a little again so I think it was on the way out.

just something else to **** with.

I just hope it was the pump and not the ECU.

Oh yeah, I just tried it and pump works.

I think it may have gotten overheated, honestly, I didn't touch the pump to check that yesterday.

I also have to add When I started it to do the relearn the heat shield for the pump wasn't on yet. I guess it doesn't take much to overheat it

It sat for 4 hrs before I towed it and still it didn't work at that point. I let it sit in the barn until this afternoon and it worked.

Only have to add the hoses you can buy from RA and the braket for the pump but much cheaper alternative. I think more of an upgrade for much less than the first generation pumps.

my car was a early F1 November 97 build. They made a new pump for the 360 so ours most likely was prone to failure from the get go.

They say never buy the first generationof a new car or system until the bugs get worked out haha

I would not have hounded you on fuses and connectirs if I knew the pump was taking over 15 seconds to prime. You can allways check the current it is using as another good source of motor condition. Mine is 6 amps priming and about 12 or so switching gears i think.

I just replaced my pump again. I had done the 360 conversion a while back and put 25k miles on the 360 pump. It was starting to take longer to prime (15 secs vs used to take 4-5 secs), and more importantly, my car was acting up in hot conditions (hot days and stop and go traffic) by jumping to neutral frequently. Clutch is new, so I knew that wasn't the cause.

Anyway, once you have the 360 pump upgrade, you can change just the electric pump motor easily, and without opening up the hydraulic system. New motors are to be had for $400 on eBay. The 360 pump is quite a bit larger than the original 355 pump, so it is a more powerful pump, hence the improved performance over original. And, as stated already, cost is the best feature of the 360 pump upgrade. But it is fairly complex a swap, in my opinion, so probably best left to a pro or a very skilled amateur.

So, my 2nd 360 pump motor I installed myself in the garage with just hand tools. All is better now and car shifting as it should. And it primes in 4-5 secs.

Your symptoms sound like a bad pump motor, Johnny.
