Welcome to Ferrari ownership, we all get asked it from time to time.

Best answer to date is "more than I wanted to".

I agree, there was a whole thread with lots of great answers, try the search in various forms or maybe someone will remember the title. I got in a real confrontational with some ***** who demanded to know how much I had paid for a car. I would not mind telling some but they are usually kind enough not to ask or close enough that it does no matter.

Anyone who needs to ask is not educated enough about cars for it to make a difference. All they care about is the $ and the status. If they were really into cars, they'd have fair idea of what differnent models/years cost.

As such throw them a high number to scare them off forever so we don't see them as future owners... don't forget to mention the high cost of service =)

If I had the balls, I'd probably say "I forget, I have so many"

I've only had my car for a year, and I've gotten that question asked of me more than I care or even wanted. Why do people want to know? Just be happy for me that I own one.

I expected this type of question from people I don't know, but what surprised me was how many people I knew personally asked me that question. What business is it of theirs what I paid for it? Do I ask them how much they paid for their house or how much they make a year? That question is way too personal for me.

"My first marriage, a three bedroom brick home, and 12 years of child support.....35% off the top.."

If they can do that math, more power to them.

Usually all bystanders within earshot drown out the conversation at that point, laughing.

If they are sincere rather than nosy, throw the real numbers at 'em including upkeep.

The last time I was asked that question, I was at a gas station filling up. After hearing my answer, the young hispanic male followed up with, "You should put some 20"s on it, homes! That would look *dope*...."

    Yeah.....20s......on a 1979 308GT4..........riiiiiiiiiiiight.

One of the best answers I've seen on this forum and one that I use most of the time (which works for me because I'm younger and people think I've borrowed "my daddy's car"):

"A lot of A's in school" which is also the truth.

or I might just say $1 mill. which usually lets them know I don't want to talk about price.

Or if I'm at a car show and I've been asked that question all day long I just simply say: "Enough"

I do my best to address all questions especially at shows, but hearing the same questions over and over about price, gas mileage, insurance, how fast it goes, how many speeding tickets do you have, not to mention the "Hey Magnum" and "Look its the Barbie Ferrari" comments I get a bit worn out.

I always say the 'record label' or 'the studio' ..then I get the ' are you famous ?' .. and you reply.. 'well you dont seem to know who I am so obviously not famous enough'

gets them scratching their heads...especially with strippers :)
