Don't know what to make of this one. Single dizzy, no front bumper? http://wichita.craigslist.org/ctd/1720153540.html
Seems like an ocean of mods (and not great ones IMO) for only 21,000 miles... (the 1-4 camcover suggests it is a US version)
what with the single dizzy cap? it looks different from a "normal" single dizzy car. i do like the bbs wheels they have on it, wish there were more, and better pics.
I actually like the mods (the painted prancing horse would have to go), and I hardly ever say that. The mods (BBS wheels, front bumper removal, air cleaners) all seem like period correct type mods to me. What gets to me is a 30 year old Ferrari with blinged out 18" wheels, booming stereos, blacked out windows or anything else that tries to pass the car off as a newer sports cars as opposed to a classic Ferrari. In fact I have removed the air box for the time being on my car and really want a set of those 16" BBS gold mesh wheels (or Etoile equivalents). In fact my car came with two sets of 14" wheels, and I am willing to trade them for some BBS type aftermarket 16" wheels if anybody has a set laying around..........or if somebody buys this car and wants original wheels. That being said the paint looks fairly rough from those pictures. This would be the type of car I would be all over if I was still searching.
Okay. I missed the roof spoiler.........and the mirrors (those are real bad)..........this all would have to go too.
BOY! Talk about modified; he sent me many photos of this car so I thought I'd post them to help potential buyers. He says that it runs good, and he has bought it from the owner several times ( he runs a car lot and a pawn shop) as the owner would get loans against it and then re-claim it. Anyway, he sounds like a nice guy but he isn't that up on the particulars of these cars; he thought that front end was stock with no bumper for instance. He said the paint looks original but is thin and it shows. There is a little rust around the bottom of the windshield and a dent in the rear left corner. I can't get over the interior mods to this thing from the door panels and console to the headliner with all those switches, slides and knobs. I wonder what all that stuff goes to, a rocket launcher or oil slick maker maybe? The custom made center console looks like it has a Loran unit or some HAM radio stuff? Beats me. He says it has a clear title and it is in hand and he only takes green cash. That thing should be a sub "10" car, not sub 20...more tonight, but that thing will be a money pit from hell. MB
POS ,,, This is a good example of what can happen to a great car in the wrong hands. Money pit to get correct. OK for a track car. I have seen something just like this on a '63 split window Vette with a 283 2 barrel carb. What a shame!
Service records??? J/K You can guarantee that no work has been done to this car for several. Probably not even an oil change. Plus it's got about 70+ additional switches/buttons that didn't come from the factory. This car has been neglected, BAD.
It was a time machine attempt. The owner liked "back to the future." Still a running Ferrari. Probably worked for what the owner used it for. Not to mention that most people don't know what the interior of a Ferrari is supposed to look like. It would impress the masses with all the buttons.
I'm pretty sure that thing with the three lights is where you input the date you want to go to and then it sends that info to the flux capacitor. Seriously though; there have been threads on this forum regarding the so called 20K Ferrari 308. Some are in good shape in that price range as has been proven by our members and their purchasing experiences. I'd venture to say that most in that price range are more like the last two I posted photos of and way over priced for their respective conditions. One was a rust bucket, and now this one has been so heavily modified that it would take a gazillion dollars to make it resemble its former self. We can use these posts as education for prospective project hunters so that they can have a realistic example of what kind of car has what kind of asking price and then bounce that info against what it would cost just for the parts alone not to mention the labor costs, should they not be their own. One could then reflect and decide not to give that 20K asking price for a car that ain't worth 8K in the shape they're in. This should save someone some money and aggravation... hopefully.
blmbalmbalmbla.... blmababmlalmlbanbmla........... Okay now that I have managed to extradite my foot from my mouth regarding my first post on this thread all I can say is wow. Obviously in order to not be hanging upside down by your ankles, with every dollar you have falling out of your pockets, the only time to restore this car would be once 308s are trading hands for $50k or so...if that ever happens. That being said if you could pick this up for somewhere in the mid to lower teens you could have a cheap driver, or an even better track car, on your hands without having to worry about it getting scratched Hopefully I don't ruffle too many feathers here, but from my short experience with these cars is that they are not too terribly expensive to run, with a decent supply of cross referenced and aftermarket service parts for the DIYer. Most of your real pricey expenses are more along the restoration side of things. I guess I am just saying that somebody could pick this car up, save it, and actually have some fun with it despite what many here may think.
You'd have been better off with the engineless steel 1976 that went last week for $10K, that was a starting point for a good early NON CAT car.. Send this one back to the Pawn Shop....LOL!
I can't believe 21K for miles. Looks more like 121K. Parts or track car now unless a real labor of love for that one car. $$$$$$$$$$$$ to fix right !
"Enzo is rolling over in his grave looking at those photos." Nah, Enzo couldn't have cared less about Ferrari's street cars and said so many times. His only interest was in the race vehicles. He would probably look at the pics of that car and say "who cares?" Messing up an old 250 GTO? Now THAT would be a different story! Then again, since it was an old, out of date race car, he'd probably have said the same about a ragged out GTO.
