My younger daughter is getting married next year (I feel old just writing that). We will be hosting an engagement party for the happy couple soon and would like to give our future SIL a nice watch as a gift.

    He's 32 years old
Loves to ski. otherwise does not do much else outdoors
They both like to travel and go out to eat
He doesn't typically wear a watch (I've never seen one on his wrist), but my daughter thinks he would appreciate that as a gift.
He does well financially, but is very down to earth and not flashy in any way.

My budget is $10,000, but I can stretch a little beyond that.
I'd like the watch to be something fairly special
It should be visually appealing, but not scream "look at me"
It has to be readily available
It has to be new, unless it's something truly unique

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to watches, other than Rolex, which is probably well outside of the budget, from what I've been reading lately. I'm open to suggestions and appreciate the help.

I'm aware of Breitling, but certainly not familiar. It seems like a fairly common brand (I know that sounds kind of D-baggie LOL)

A black Rolex Submariner is timeless in my opinion. That's what I'd be shopping for.

Agreed.....but it looks like used ones are $10,000; could I even get a new one in the next few weeks?

Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT. Perfect for those that travel, and flies under the radar because most people will think it is just a Seiko.

Too many choices at the $10K+ price range, the best thing to do is narrow the search a bit by showing your daughter some pics, have her give you two-five choices of what he might like and go with your instinct on which one. The watch will hold a special meaning to him, so will go beyond aesthetics or whether if he actually loves/likes the watch itself. That said, you'd want a watch that fits his style/lifestyle. Congratulations and good hunting.

My vote: Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch:

    Listen to Poljav.

One of the best watches, readily available at retail (unlike a Rolex sports model), high quality movement, will out live it’s owner, long and important history in space, can dress up or down....

    as mentioned above ^^^

    Speedmaster.

Only downside is no date function. Some prefer if it’s their only watch.

    Very true. I stand corrected.
    When I think Speedmaster, I don’t see a date.
I’m old school. Here is mine from 1967.
But there are some great newer models that do.
