Gentlemen - I live in New York City. My parents are visiting from abroad. We've always heard how wonderful the New England area is, and wanted to take a short four-day trip to a nice area. I was thinking of places in Vermont, or perhaps the Catskills. Any thoughts / recommendations / good websites for guidance. Given the age of my parents, Golfing will be the primary activity. Not really going to be able to do camping, hiking, etc. Plan would be to drive out Friday morning, spending the weekend there, and then drive back on Monday afternoon. Even quaint B&B's situated in a scenic area would be lots of fun. Look forward to your suggestions.
Mt. Washington Hotel. In New hampshire..beautiful golf course very historic, Views are the best on the east coast...The rooms are very similar to what youd find at a B&B but with a full resort..Good Luck
Things are late to bloom this year here in southern vt I'm at Stratton mtn, I've heard the trees and flowers have bloomed already in the Berkshires so you may want to consider that area.
Vik, If you Head to Mt. Washington, and have time....you should also check out this: http://www.byways.org/browse/byways/2458/overview.html http://www.byways.org/browse/byways/2458/travel.html (...especially with the P-Car). Instead of 93 all the way up, detour east on the K. Hwy. Nice, scenic roads, perfect for some spirited driving, and great for nice views and no 'footwork'. North Conway, NH (see K. Hwy map) for a country boutique shopping day trip as well. Have Fun, Kevin PS - Mt Washington area is great.....would also suggest: Lower Maine (Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, Kittery (LL Bean and outlets)) for that 'Classic' rocky coastline, lobster, kind of trip.
I grew up in MA. Now I live in NH about 2 miles over the MA border. I have spent many summers in NH. It is beautifull...but if you want to get away and blend into the surroundings I would go to Manchester, VT. For fancy accomidations you can stay at the Equinox Hotel. But for B+B fair there are tons of out of the way kick back and relax places to stay in the area. First Class Food to be had. Manchester gets a lot of NYer's on weekends...plus it's closer to you. I don't own a Ferrari- So take my advise with a grain of salt ;-)
I would take a look at Shelburne Farms VT. Not a bad drive. An old estate on Lake Champlain with fantastic views of lake, nice rooms, great food and hundreds or acres to explore, cheese making barns etc. right on site and Burlington and all it offers, sailing, hiking, restaurants close by...a special place worth a trip someday.
There are countless places to go in New England that you may like quite a bit. Here are three questions to help us narrow things down: How far are you willing to drive? How secluded do you want to be? Would you prefer coastline or mountains?
