I have wanted a Ferrari for as long as I can remember, but other priorities had to be taken care of first. With that being said, I should be a buyer sometime in late February.

I live in Tulsa, OK and will be going to San Antonio at the end of the month for the Alamo Bowl. While I'm in Texas, I would like to start my search for a Ferrari.

I had a ride (not a good one) years ago in a 360, sat in a 360 at the Boardwalk in Plano years ago, but have never driven one. I, of course, will have to drive one before I would buy.

From the look of things, I think I want a Scud, but am not sure about the interior or the F1 shifter. I don't think they will be a deal breaker, but I need to see one other than on the net. I also would like to look at and drive a F430 and make sure the extra money is worth it. I sure hope the cars lives up to what I think it is, as it's been a long time in the making. So.........

What is the best way to go about test driving one?

    Thanks in advance.

Find a dealer with both and check them out. My wife is only 5'1 and I had a special alcantara pillow made for her to either drive or ride in the Scud. The 430 she has no issues and the seat adjustments work perfectly for her.

Sort out prior to even thinking about driving one what you actually want out of the car.
Are you buying it to hammer and drive the bolts off?
Are you buying it for Cars and Coffee and date nights?
Are you buying it to sit in the garage and wax it the occassional Sunday?

Will your wife be joining you all or some of the time?
Is it going to be used for weekend trips with her places?

Buy a 430 for everything besides "drive the bolts off of it" and buy the Scud for that.

Your wife/girlfriend won't enjoy weekends in the Scud or too many 1-2 hour drives unless she is hardcore car gal like my wife :) Then she'll tell you to get the hell out of the drivers seat and sit down and shut up.

The money is worth it for the Scud if you plan on utilizing the upgrades. If you only plan on doing a handful of runs to 100 mph on your local highway you'll find yourself wishing you hadn't spent the extra money.

The best way to get a test drive is to contact a dealer. I suggest calling instead of emailing.

Show that you're serious and know what you're looking for. What they don't want are lookie loo's.

Also, let them know what you're trying to get out of a test drive. For example, you're worried you won't like the ride or the F1 gearbox. If he feels you're just trying to get a joy ride on a vacation, it may be tough.

If the dealer feels you're a serious, knowledgable, and well intentioned, I'm sure you can get a test if they have one in stock.

There's probably quite a few people changing their Scuds to 458's on a trade now. So, it's probably a good time to shop. Also, the winter is the slow period (spring obviously the peak).

On my test drive I would like to take the car down a rough road, stop and go traffic, a curve or two, and a quick blast.

The car would be a weekend type car. There are a few great roads on the way to our place at the lake that would be A LOT of fun, date night or two (my wife is badass, she is fine with whatever car I end up with), a few car shows, a race or two on the streets, probably take it to the drag strip to see what it can run, and a track day once a year (Hallet).

I do plan on putting miles on this car so a Scud with a few miles my be my best bet. There is one in Houston that would probably work with 11K on it, but don't want to contact him till I'm ready to buy. His car is listed on this site.
