Finally some fresh news from Brunei, as posted on Facebook and Instagram by our fellow @Lm_spot. Below you can see the first Ferrari Purosangue in Brunei, owned by none other than Prince Jefri Bolkiah. The number plate is KC 1954 which was previously put on the black Ferrari LaFerrari (now sold) and later on the black McLaren P1 (now also sold). Enjoy! Thank you. Very important information, since this Koenig Specials conversion is based on a Diablo Coupe. The Koenig Specials conversion is rather a Targa version than a roadster. That's why it is based on a Diablo Coupe I think. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't honestly believe that anyone cares what some guy that is basically nothing but a horder has. It's obvious that he has more money than sense. Buys them to keep score and nothing more. 87 pages devoted to this?
I find it fascinating. At minimum just for the sake of the cars. I think any hate of the cars comes across as hate for the politics or jealousy, they're innocent.
The impact of the royal family on the automobile industry in the late 80's and early 90's has been unprecedented. Purchasing power from Brunei, for example, probably enabled Rolls-Royce and Bentley to survive in the early 1990s before Volkswagen and BMW struck and both brands went their own way (again). I also assume that AMG, Aston Martin and Pininfarina in particular also owe a considerable share of their sales and revenues to the Bruneian passion for collecting cars. And Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Jaguar, for example, will not have missed where dozens or even hundreds of vehicles were delivered. If you now read up on the topic (or google it), you will also be amazed at how many technical and design ideas were implemented in the custom-made and one-off pieces for Brunei, which continue to have an impact to this day. No other modern private car collection or buying family worldwide can claim all this in terms of quantity and quality.
To each their own. I am fascinated by it because there are some great twists and turns in the story. You have the father and son/Prince thing. Then you learn that that his crazy car obsession allowed rolls Royce and Bentley etc... to survive. Then you see the INSANE one offs. Or 20 offs... Heck I think he kept some of the Ferrari r and d going for a while. It's crazy to think he has Ferrari build a wagon! Or a sedan. Or Bentley an SUV. His amg specials are out of this world. These are truly some of the last times bespoke coachwork cars will have ever been made. Now... The disappointing part is infact the hoarding aspect which you touch on. The fact that they sit and rot while previous fee have escaped... But boy ... If all of these made it out of the garage it would be so so so so excellent.
Other people who are IN to this will be a key to correct me... But I've been reading about this since the mid 90s and from what I understand it became a moment of shame for the royalty. First for Prince Jeffrey or jafri can't remember his name exactly.... And that the father was punishing him by banishing him from the cars. Then I believe it became public and with "slave labor conditions" it became a negative thing for the country. Such oppulance in the presence of horrible conditions for the subjects became taboo. I wouldn't doubt they were afraid of an uprising.
Because they know that the cars he still owns have a value I see a recent document that lists all their cars with the value of each one. Next to it there are names of potential buyers. BIA know that he has a treasure I think they will start to put the cars back on the road to be able to sell some in the future
