Man that interior was ugly! Now that this car is brought back to what it should be, Does it make it more valuable? Does the RHD kill it?
I have to believe that longterm it will play out like most in-period modifications and the Brunei story will add value as long as the cars have been kept in good condition or restored. Also in a market like the UK where RHD is more appropriate I could see there being some added desire for this configuration. Anyone here have specific knowledge of RHD F40 or F50 selling prices? >8^) RE
Was told by UK Ferrari dealer who serviced a Brunei RHD car that the conversion had in their opinion compromised the car. As for RHD desirability, I'm in the UK and have an LHD F40 and F50. Wouldn't dream of having a RHD 40 let alone paying a premium for a sub optimal variant.
Thanks for your perspective. I am rather surprised to hear that Pininfarina would have delivered less than the best on these. I've been up close to one of the special 456 Venice models and it looked every bit a production car that would have come right out of the factory. Granted I didn't peel away any panels to see what might be hidden underneath, but the finished product was superb. >8^) ER
Would be great if Paolo Garella could chime in regarding the conversions. He worked on many of those projects and his website is pretty informative too. Cars in Life - Paolo Garella
I was thinking the same - someone nudge Napolis and ask if he'd care to pass along the request to PG. >8^) ER
Apparently the pedals had a horrible offset. IIRC a UK owner sold his and now bought or is looking for a lhd one...
I know the owner of a RHD F50 PF did who is very happy with his. I'll ask Paolo about the F40's. As an aside we can do these modifications and others such as adding front and rear lift kits to these at our Factory in Turino.
Honestly think it's a shame that the car was changed. The grey paint and the TR interior told a story whereas now in standard red it just looks like a bit of a knockoff.
Very Austere for the period and maker. But I feel they were trying to make the F40 uncluttered so the driver would focus more on driving.
My question is, being these were factory conversions or were they sent out of the factory for the conversion ?
What would be the price valuation on something like this and is it documented ? with any different paperwork or was only just requested by the owner ?
It depends on the Buyer, as you can see in this thread, the overall consensus is that Pininfarina has done better, yet still, a unique F40 has been created.
