So went downtown last night, very disappointed, as there was essentially NO spotting (Maybach does not count). Driving by the House of Blues with wife and parents in car, and had a near seizure when I spotted a green Murcie spyder, vents extended, top off. Started spouting all my useless knowledge about the car when..... a valet in a VERY large red pickup truck shoots from the east side of the street to the west side, missing the Murcie by literally 6 inches! The murcie man slammed on the breaks at the last second. Even my parents (non car folks) felt a disturbance in the force at that critical moment! Which begs the question. This could have been a 50K or more accident. Whose insurance would pay for this? Most valet tickets are riddled with disclaimers, many valets are probably not even true "employees" of anyone, maybe not even citizens or carriers of car insurance. It was an eye opening near disaster spot!
Mike, you are correct, that could have very easily been a $50K plus incident. If it was who I think it was, that Murci has already had the rear end stuffed once already. Usually, the car owner's insurance will cover it and then go after the valet company to try to get some of their money back.
Enjoy the cars while they last: In my second week of ownership a young girl almost T-boned my 308 shooting out of a sidestreet without looking. Similar thing happened to Jack's 328. You can be as careful as you want, but if it has to happen, it will.
Twice. Sounds as if that would have been all the valet's fault. I would imagine that the valet companies must carry some heavy insurance due to the nature of the biz. The disclaimers wouldn't absolve them of any wrecks.
Yeah,same thing happened to me,except that I was T-Boned by a Bus!....and I was on a Motorcycle........OWWWWWW!!!!! Thank God for Bondo!!!!...
