    Hello,

How do you guys manage your engine temperature during warmers day and traffic with your Naturally aspirated engines ?
Heat can go up to 100*C easy when the airflow is too light, I usually drive on country roads but sometimes have to drive to my dealer, or see friends in town.
This is more exceptional but I was wondering how you guys manage this especially in cities where traffic can happen with hot weather. never heard my radiators starting though... should I have an engine light if they don't work ?

    thanks :)

If we look at 100% energy from an engine you find that 30% (perhaps) are converted into power. The rest is heat.
The heat will be dispersed of by exhaust (a lot), engine surface (some) and radiator(s). I forgot the percentages.

My point is, if you can vent the engine bay better, you can gain a lot of cooling.

I sat at 43°C (110°F) for three sequences of traffic light and the 16" fan did its job. I am also an advocate of having no inner wings (fenders) to let the heat escape. And I will die on that hill.

The other aid is NOT to funnel all air through the radiator. I leave the top open for air to blow over the tappet covers and help air flow through the engine bay.
This applies better for front engined cars. But you get my drift. If you can, extend the firewall downwards to the road with a 10 mm lip ("Gurney" flap). That creates a low pressure situation under the car, helping heat escape from the engine bay.

For a rear engined cars (my mate's Group-C): two VW GOLF Mk1 radiators in the sidepods. Nothing more. Supercharged 302 Chevy.
Two small fans in case he stands at the same traffic light (yes, street legal)

I will check oil and coolant temp next time out...maybe tomorrow or Friday. 210f coolant or oil is fine though and probably normal.

Modern car will have no issues. If your temps are going up something is wrong. I would get it checked immediately. Generally a small pinhole in the radiator can do this as the system is loosing pressure. Head gasket ?
