Sunday afternoon drive TODAY 6/26 Danville-Orinda-Martinez

Hi all, it's Sunday morning now (6/26) and I'm planning on taking a drive today along Bear Creek Road from Orinda to Martinez. Starting in Danville at 4:00 p.m. If you've never done this road, it is a blast. Some big sweepers, nice twisties, views of the reservoir and orchards, and fairly lightly travelled - it ends up in Martinez "wine country" (didn't know about that one, did you?). There is one spot where you come over a rise and you can see the next mile or two of twisting road laid out before you (and see whether there are oncoming cars). The ride from Orinda to Martinez (ending at Alhambra Valley Road, near I-680 and Hwy 4) is less than an hour and there are other ways you can come back (Happy Valley Rd through Lafayette, etc.).

Anyway, I will be starting from Danville at 4:00 p.m. and taking the 20 minute ride up to Orinda. If anyone wants to meet me, I'll start from the Valero Gas Station just off I-680 at the Sycamore Valley Road exit in Danvillle. Take the Sycamore Valley Rd exit off I-680, turn West, and it is one the first corner on your right (corner of San Ramon Valley Blvd). You'll turn right onto Danville Blvd/San Ramon Valley Blvd then turn into the gas station. I'l be parked there in my Red 1995 F355 Spider. See you at 4:00 p.m.!!! 415-948-8221 is my cell phone if you are running late. If you're from Orinda area, we can make a brief stop into the Chevron Station just off Hwy 24 before we head up onto San Pablo Dam Road and Bear Creek Road, but only if we see a reply here to do so.

As an aside, some of you (LUKE!) have been trying to get to the Auto Affair store in Danville. It's right across the street from this gas station (in the Livery Shopping Center), so maybe you can hit that for a bit before meeting for a drive. All-in, the drive will consume less than 90 minutes by the time we're back to Danville. Anyone wanting to make it a longer drive can then head out Tassajara past Blackhawk and go to Pleasanton/Livermore via Tassajara and Highland Drive.

I'll be there no matter what the response here, so let me know or just come on out and join us at 4:0 p.m.. All cars and self-described car geeks (like me) are welcome, from Audi to Yugo, and all in between. There may even be some open passenger seats, but you never know...Cheers
