Hopefully many of you remember Pat Santangelo of the the Florida Highway Patrol. He provided the FHP escort for the Toy Rally two years ago. All he wanted in exchange was to fill the trunks of the five FHP cars with toys for the Haitian church in north Miami.

I made promises to Pat concerning he 2007 Toy Rally, but because I became "unavailable" for the latter half of that year, I could not deliver. We did manage to bring out some beautiful cars for the toy distribution at the church last year in 2007. Thanks to those of you that helped.

Pat and his wife are very active in helping the Haitian community, not only in south Florida, but they actually travel to Haiti to raise money.

As I attempt to reduce my "things", I have been filling a van full of toys, clothing, and furniture nearly every week on Pat's behalf for the last two months for the Haitian church in Delray Beach. But coming up this Sunday, December 21, is the 2008 toy distribution at the Haitian church in north Miami. I would ask and appreciate if those of you with Ferraris, or other exotic cars, could come to the church PREFERABLY with your car, this coming Sunday at 1:30PM, Dec 21. Please bring a few new toys for children of all ages, from toddler to early teens.

No, there is no Hooters, gift bags, stickers, free breakfast or lunch, or ego boosting in appearing, strictly to bring a smile to kids that really deserve.

    Please help.

Any questions, call me at 561.305.7285. I am not on the computer much, so a telephone call is much better.

    Thanks!!!

I am actually working with Xtreme Indoor Karting to provide some additional support to this event. I will let everyone know the exact details but the tentative plan is to meet at Xtreme at noon on Sunday, do some karting for those who are interested (pay as you go) and drive down to the church together. I will post more details once I confirm things with Xtreme and Pat Santangelo.

We will be there with LOTS of toys......last year was amazing. If you can possibly attend you should. Any afternoon with friends is a great thing. But when you can combine it with making a kid's Christmas it is priceless.

The children of this community were so excited about and cars and the toys. It was truly a very worthwhile and personally rewarding event.

RM statement from last year = Dec. 25 '07

"oh my god, what a day. I think I lost 5 lbs walking back and forth. I am glad I could be everyone's entertainment for the day : ) It was very nice to see the look of the kids faces when we drove in and mine once I got home : )

Fred kept coming over, so are you glad you brought your car - he he he - my response then ahh - NO,

But now - YES it was worth it and will do it again. Lessons learned: DON't let anyone walk with a chair as if they were sitting in it next to your car and dont stand so close and .... and .... and ....

Very nice event and Andy and Ron did a fantastic job - and thanks Martin for Lunch !!! "

I am not sure if I will be able to make it this year :(

    WHAT No stickers ??? ??? ???
No ego's to stroke ??? ??? ??? and you all know how much I like to have my ego stroked :) Or that is atleast what my wife says and FYI, I call him, my ego ;)

William, bring ANY car you feel like driving. Bring 2 if you want! There will be parking for all cars available, not just Ferraris. Some of the guys from the kart track will be driving their BMW's and such.

In my opinion, I would NOT just drive down to the church without the group. Last year my wife and I were a little uncomfortable with our surroundings on the way to the intercity church and we had a police escort.

Also we will not be able to make it this year.

Meet at Extreme at 12, karting and then church at 1:30? Is there enough time for all that?

Also, will FHP be at Extreme as well? As Robert said, it is nice to show up at the church together. I couldn't find the church on my own, and I've been there twice already.

I'm working on an "uonfficial" police escort. Best case we'll be picked up on the I-95 onramp at Commercial, worst case we'll stop at the golden glades interchange and meet up with the FHP there...I will have that worked out shortly. As far as time, Xtreme open at 12 and we'll get priority treatment for a couple of sessions to start the day and karting really doesn't take much time if there is no waiting. We could easily be done karting by 12:30 or 12:45 so there's plenty of time. Also, the party actually starts at 2, not 1:30 so we don't HAVE to arrive at 1:30 exactly, just in enough time to stage the cars.

Sounds good Sindo! Hope everything goes well this week.

In all fairness, you're a little uncomfortable parking your car in an airport hangar with $20 million worth of other cars all around..hahahahaha

I agree with you, that is a terrible area in Miami lots of crime/drugs/shooting you name it.

Plus, I was under the impression that we already had an amaizing event for donating toys for kids ...

Yes, the Toy Rally is a great event benefitting Toys for Tots but is not the ONLY event in town. Unfortunately I missed the Toy Rally this year but will be back next year for sure. This event is completley different...as everyone who attended last year and/or the year before has said, this is a very rewarding event being able to see the excitement on the faces of these kids. We're helping out our friend with the FHP who provided the police escort for the 1st Toy Rally back in 2006 free of charge. If you're uneasy about the neighborhood just come by Xtreme and drop off some toys, have some fun racing gokarts and call it a day...we have enough cars, and possibly a delivery truck, to bring the toys down to Little Haiti.

Guys, grow a set, it's not like you're going to get beat up and raped going down there.
Yeah there was a toy rally, but where do you think your gifts and help will make the
most impact? No it's not a pretty place ,but the joy and smiles you'll bring are worth
    it.

I just spoke to Pat Santangelo about the event. As it stands they are 200 toys shy of what they need for Sunday (500 kids, 300 toys). If you haven't done your shopping yet, their biggest area of need is toys for boys ages 6-12 but they need things for other ages as well so if you already have toys, no worries. I know Xtreme will probably be able to cover at least half of what is needed for Sunday so let's see if we can make up the rest, this shouldn't be too hard to do.
