Just saw the news on the handicap space usage on KHOU. Showed 4 Ferraris parked in handicapped spaces and two others parked in marked off walkways used for wheelchair and walker access.

The owners claim the security guys directed them to park in these spaces, and the restaurant confirmed that story.

Sorry.....but you DON'T park in handicapped spaces without a permit, no matter what the rent-a-cops tell you. The reporter claims cops were starting to give out tickets but not sure anyone actually got one.

One owner acted like a total tool....shoved the camera guy and told him to stop filming. Another tried to explain things rationally. The anchor was really negative about the situation, shaking her head as she described the scene.

Unfortunate situation all around.....lots of nice looking cars in attendance though.

I am the guy that was accused of shoving the camera guy. The fact is, the camera guy GRABBED my arm!! I NEVER touched his camera or him!!!!!.

We have invited KHOU for the past 3 years to cover an FCA event at Ronald McDonald House (where we raise up to $12K on a single afternoon). KHOU always says "I'm sorry but this is not a news worthy story".

Park two (not four) Ferrari's in handicapped places at the instruction (of the security in the parking lot) and the liberal media shows up in force. Did they (KHOU) ever actually say we were told to park there?

This is nothing more than an attempt at class divide and class warfare as usual by the liberal media. Do not get me started on this. I not only had a long conversation with the reporter on the site but I also talked to the so called "news desk" for over 30 minutes today. They simply would not respond to all of the points that I made with them because they had a story agenda, and they were sticking to it.

    TYPICAL LIBERAL MEDIA.

This is a bunch of crap. This is why most people see exotic car owners as snobs, because the media paints them up to be like that. I am constantly at car shows and most of the people I talk to who own these kinds of cars are the most genuine people I have ever met. I have run into a few bad apples but for the most part they are pleasant people to be around.

wow, that's pretty rediculous. The shop says to park in those spaces, then we catch hell from it. Is there NOTHING else going on in Houston for news? Mr. Sour Grapes has to show up and whine about what IF he had to take is dad out and there were no spots. geez, come on.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that it will be the last time we spend our money there, and I'm guessing it was quite a bit of $$ at that.

    Yep.

And it's so funny. If there's an accident or anything involving a "nice" car the brand is always named. If it's just normal cars you don't hear ****.

Only a fool believes everything on the news.

I was one of the "guilty" Ferraris. I parked my silver F430 in one of the coned off handi-capped spots. I first thought it would be o.k., since the restaurant made arrangements with the security folks. I realize now it was a mistake for me to park there. I moved my car "way" away, once the heat showed up.
This situation got way too escalated, and should not even come close to making the news. I can't count how many times I have seen high end cars parked in handicapped zones. I'm not saying it's right, but it's certainly not worthy of doing a 3 minute crappy negative news story on. I think KHOU11 was actually trying to put a negative light on the demographics of exotic car owners. I'm not actually mad at the guy that called the police / security to complain (he was the guy being interviewed). He has a right to rectify a situation like that. I'm more angry at KHOU for this sensationalistic, left wing bias mentality of generating a news story, which should have never been. AMEN.

I have talked to the management company and there was a total breakdown in communication. They told the guards to cone off 15 to 20 spaces in the front of the facility for Sunday morning and that is what was done. I guess no one thought or considered the handicap spaces while they were placing cones, but they were in fact coned off when we arrived. When I talked to the security guard yesterday after this got started he said that he was going to probably lose his job over this. The really sad part is today I found out he has been fired. I wonder if KHOU has offered him a job?

The liberal media should put the blame on all of this as they have done before. This is all George Bush's fault!!

I had to quit running with the Houston FCA.....a bunch of trouble makers, the whole lot of them.....;)

    j/k....:D :D :D :D
Sounds like a bunch of hogwash...the traffic cones led you to believe it was "okay"......was there a bunch of activity that early in the morning??

It really all smells like a 'set up' the news crew being there "at that time", ya know????

Too late, ya'll are all famous now!!!

Remember, a smokey burn out in the parking lot completes the Public Perception of the "typical Ferrari owner"

That WAS a very unusal camera angle on you, G......did you knock him to the ground FIRST???

It opens up the shot at belt buckle level and pans up from there, like he was "beat down" on the ground regaining consciousness....LOL!

Reminds me of a scene in the movie Hairspray.

The star of the movie whacks a police chief on the head with a protester sign and the news reports that the girl hit him on the head with a baseball bat and he's in critical condition :D

Dave you are correct it does make us look bad which was the exact intent of the media. If we were driving Prius's or VW Beetles they would have never shown up!! The management company has taken full responsibility for this entire situation as a complete breakdown in communication between themselves and the security guard on duty.

    Indeed it does.

Of course people make a big deal out of Ferraris in handicapped places, but I bet if they were Camrys without handicapped tags, they wouldnt. Ridiculous.

This is complete crap! I watch KPRC 2, now that is a station with integrity!

I'm completely on your side. Those spaces were marked off, so it was your right to park there. I know the hard work all of you had to go there to purchase those Ferrari's. Hell, you should've been allowed to park inside the restaurant as far as I'm concerned!

When you have a high profile career, live in a high profile area, or drive a high profile car you're going to be held to a higher standard. Is it fair or right? Of course not but that doesn't change the fact that the general public will still hold you to that standard. When you don't live up to that standard you not only make yourself look bad but you also make everyone else held to that standard look bad. Do not missunderstand me I'm not saying it is right or fair. But let's be brutally honest here, having a club function where a group of high profile and very visable cars are parked in handicap spaces wasn't the brightest thing to do. The excuse of a "security told me to park there and they should be responsible." is crapola. I know quite a few members of the club and many of them come to my place quite often; none of them got where they are in life by following the orders of some rent-a-cop or thinking some part-time security guard has authority over them.

Now having said that there is no doubt that channel 11 had an agenda here and they completed their goal with flying colors. The look of the anchor and the creative editing of G's interaction with the camera man were superb in making Ferrari owners look bad. There is an old rule in Public Relations; "never get into a fight with the press" you will always lose since they have the last word. The club has lost this battle but there is a lesson to be learned here. The question is will it be learned or will the strong egos that got us all where we are today take over and force us to repeat this lesson again.

No, its not their right to break federal law....your logic is akin to saying the restaurant owner can legally allow patrons to smoke crack in his place.

Ok, fair enough. Though, since the shopping strip they were at was private property, does that change anything?

Anyways, I think we can at least all agree that the Ferrari drivers were not at fault, since they were told they can park there.

That's pathetic and of course KHOU will not do a follow up and state the FACTS!

This is horrible that the guy would lose his job over a misunderstanding. He made a mistake, but shouldn't lose his job.

I own a piece of commercial property that I lease out, similar to the strip center in question. No, i don't own any piece of the parking lot, it's owned by the property management company.

No, the drivers ARE at fault (IMO....and also that of local law enforcement) for parking in federally mandated handicapped parking without placards or stickers.

Unfortunate that a slow news day brought the media into it, now there's no way you could ever meet at that place again, without the threat of vandalism, regardless of where you are parked.

    Unfortunate incident, to be sure.

The fact that the property management and the FCA members disregarded Federal Law makes this a no-win situation.

Reading the comment section on the newspaper story makes me want to re-think driving my Ferrari down to Houston in two weeks!!

Most were understandably negative, but some were threatening violence to cars and drivers.

I think that it's stories like these that make many owners of exotic cars keep them garaged, or only go out at odd hours, not to be seen by the rest of humanity. It's just too much trouble. The media really should go after the true demons in our society, but "rich" people are far too easy a target and it furthers their Alinsky-esque strategy of isolate and ridicule. Textbook class-warfare tactics.

If my car were legally parked and vandalized by some of the posters on the news site, I would be the deserving villain for daining to actually drive my Ferrari!!
    Now that's messed-up.
