I've had many FCA & FC members asking about Sunday Morning Drives, that we used to have one drive a month or at least one drive per quarter... Most who know me know that I have have dozens of local to DFW Sunday Morning Drive's in my portfolio. They also know that I spend many hours, days, and weekends re-driving known routes, as well as driving suggested roads, and exploring even better options that have come available ( or recommended by members) I even stop to check out lunch spots, because lunch is almost as important as the drive is! Unfortunately, a large majority of those routes have degraded due to new home & business development in the past year. I have spent a lot of time trying to piece together roads from one drive with another in order to have something I feel comfortable having a long line of Ferrari to following me on. Something else that has been working really well, are long weekend driving events. We've had Halloween weekends to/from/around Jefferson Texas. Last year we tried out a long weekend in Big Bend, where we transported the cars down and flew down with JSX. Add in "Hanging at the Hanger" in the Hill Country , this years FCA Regional event in San Marcos, and the FCA annual experience in South Carolina, I feel there are many driving options available to FCA DFW& FC members. The good news, is that while some of our most favorite roads are currently in poor shape, I expect they will be resurfaced, giving us even more fun in the future. For what its worth, I have been able to put roads together West of Preston Rd ( SH289 ) up towards the Texas boarder and West towards St Jo. We have also had tremendous success with poker run and photo scavenger hunt rallies over the past few years, so we will continue to host those this year as well. Thank you for your understanding and if you have some secret roads or routes you would like to share, that you have personally driven in the past 30/60/90 days and know them to be " Ferrari Friendly " please send me a message ( don't post them here ) I'd love to connect with you and follow you through the area!! Lastly, I'm reaching out to Tillman and Don R, maybe even Rob L to lead us on some of the roads they used to drive back in the day! Tillman had a good idea, to have a 308/328 era drive... Rob could lead a 348/355 era drive, and so on... So we have a lot in the works and I will report back here as things progress. I appreciate everyone who has been on one of my drives in the past and I look forward to leading many more in the future! Steve...Have you looked out to the north and west up near the Red River? In and around Lake Nocona. Most of the construction up there has been finished for a while now, and the roads are in good shape...T
Tillman ? Don R ? …Did a south of Fort Worth tour many moons ago starting near benbrook lake ending at Motorsportsranch. My favorite . No Blind hills on city streets at crazy mph. I’ve crashed many times racing on race tracks . I’m not afraid to crash . Taking out a biker or pedestrian on a city street is unacceptable. There . I’ve said it .
I have a group of fellow Porsche guys that get together often and plan fun drives like the one you mentioned, David. We started up by Eagle Mountain Lake and ended at my place in Crowley for a BBQ lunch. That drive from Benbrook to MSR I might have driven and if it is the one I’m thinking, it’s fun! We ended at Ketzlers German restaurant in Granbury for lunch. There are some nice roads out this way as you get down towards Glen Rose, but that “chip n’ seal” paving leaves something to be desired. Cheers Dave
This pic describes quite a few runs, always something slow up front…. Image Unavailable, Please Login
