We went to bed last night with the expectation of a nice sunday run today. Candy and I were taking the 400i cabriolet (top down)up to a quaint little town in the lower San Juans named LaConnor. From there up and around back roads to a spectacular view point out over the entrie San Juan chain of islands(weather permitting). Our drive was to encompass some 175 plus miles, concluding a wonderful brunch in later afternoon. (We are hosting a 1 cylinder brass era car tour later this summer and were going to map routes today)

Damn damn and double damn the weather guys were of course wrong yet again, with their promiss of sun, we had rain, just lots of rain,no top down driving, no exquisite view of the San Juans, no brunch............................................Bah Humbug.................

Well we will live to drive it another day, guess I will just become a couch potato and watch the Indy 500, the results with the Turkish F-1 was yet another dissapointing loss for Ferrari, although the last 20 laps were interesting for the other teams., as they say maybe next year?

Sounds like it would have been a nice drive in the rain, even with the top up.

Gotta love the Bently, class and power, and timeless design.

I have a fettish however, only top down cars in my collection. From my 1905 1 cylinder Cadillac to my wifes new Maserati Spider, all top down cars.

Of course we have the mudane Subaru as that is our business, and they have afforded us the toys we have come to love and appreciate.

I had horrible childhood trauma, my father was a Chrysler guy through and through. Every year he and my mother would take the train from Seattle to Detroit to pick up his new Chrysler. Every year my brother and I begged him to get a snappy color, a hardtop god forbid a convertable. Every year they returned home with oh no not agin, another damn 4 door sedan in a dark and discusting color, plain and mundane. He always told us, because I sell them every year they need to appeal to a number of potenial buyers.

So after many years of sedan trauma, when I reached the age to actually buy my own car, it was a 1957 Chrysler 300 C salmon pink and white convertable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I have not looked back since. Years of therepy and a wife or 2, and much professional help, my santity revolves around open cars only. If I were to regress to a "sedan" my childhood trauma would return with bad dreams night sweats, and incredible loss of sleep. In fact I'm shaking as I write this at the thought of a sedan...................................

When I finally arrived at the point I could afford to buy and collect most any vehicle I wanted, I vowed no sedans, no closed cars. When my brother settled my fathers estate a few years ago, we divided up dad's car collection, I had 1st choice then my brother had his choice. Of the number of vehicles my father collected, his prize was a 1929 Rolls Royce Limo, his second favorite was a 1930 Ford model a pheaton. I had 1st pick and took the model a pheaton over the Rolls sedan.

It's the old "horses for courses" approach for me. Got an example of all of the practical GT Ferraris, the super cars are relatively meaningless to me since I prefer a kart on a track to a street car and the cars that I have go fast enough for the street. I find that this does everything that the 308 can't, and there is nothing wrong with that.
