I have a 360 Spyder which I love. I was recently "selected" for a Superamerica. I am also on the list for a 430 Spyder, but likely for mid 2006. Although I see posts on each car, I have yet to see an opinion comparing the two.

Yes, I understand that the cars are very different, but given the choice, which way would you go and why? Are the Superamerica's in demand? Is their introduction well known? Will there limited nature help value?

    Thanks

If you buy both, you'll help your chances of getting offered an "F70" or whatever it will be.

    But not by much.

The SA will probably suffer a depreciation hit just like the 550 B did. Of course, once everyone figures out how many 360 Spiders were made and they aren't the current flavor of the day, they'll fall too. Just like the 355 Spider, and the 348 Spider...

Buy what YOU like, not what we like.

    Texas!

Drive a 550/575 and see how you like it. If you like it, then it is a matter of deciding which car will depreciate the most while you wait for the F430. Unless you are already on the "A" list, my guess that you'll have at at least a two to three year wait for the F430 Spyder. I'll also guess that you will not get a Superamerica until the last quarter of this year.

What is going to happen to 360 Spyder prices in the mean time? My guess is nothing. These cars are still trading at or slightly over sticker. Amazing. Will the F430 Spyder, when it finally hits the streets, cause a drop in 360 Spyder prices? Of course, Sherlock. The thing that everyone kepts forgetting is that the F430 coupe and spyder are not Porsches. Not only will this be a slow train coming, but those of us in the great unwashed are not going to be able to buy one of these cars at sticker for probably two to three years, maybe more. Compare that to 997s that are already being discounted.

How much will a Superamerica depreciate in a year? My guess is 10%. The problem is that 10% of $300k is real money.

But if you like the Superamerica do the deal. The depreciation is the price you gonna pay to be free. If you don't, enjoy your 360 while you wait.

    Hope this helps, Dale

BTW - Don't fall for this paying dues bs on a F70 or whatever it will be called. I know of some folks who had paid very heavy dues and still did not get an Enzo. Just deal with the here and now, not the bs in the sky.

How long do you plan to keep it? Remember that in about 1-2 years the SA will be the "old" model due to the new V12 coming out.

Depending on the wait I would go for the F430.

Don't give up your F430 slot. It's the safest bet. Then if you can still accomadate the SA and the 50k hit it may take go for both.

It may not be what you want...but how about a 550 barchetta..can get it RIGHT NOW....low cost compared to when new....probably wont depreciate anymore significantly...? Thats what I would do!

    I misread this thread's title...

I was looking forward to learning more about the Superformance!

btw, I think the Superamerica is just another gaudy bauble which few owners will actually drive, other than to park it in front of a trendy restaurant. If you're a driver, I think you'll have a lot more fun in the 430.

I'd prefer the F430...REally stunning car that will be new for years to come..

The Superamerica is a last effort to keep the present front drive ferrari desirable...

The F430 really would be my choice...for looks/performance/and "new" factor

I'm 1st on the hopeful list for SA here. I am also 1st on 600 list, have been since 01. So many restaurants, so little parking. :p

550B was literally unuseable. Top only good for 70mph, lumpen rear deck. SA is as useable as anyhting they've made, and a V12 convertible like that has not been seen since the Daytona Spyder. Think back, no Boxer,TR, or other 12's have been converts. Hmmmm. No, it isn't a raving beauty, but it is better than the 550B, and THOSE brought over sticker for a good while. I hope this car holds, but if it doesn't, OK.

I still want one, and I'm keeping the 550. It IS better looking. ;)

You don't understand his strategy on this one. And I'm not going to give it away. But knowing what I do, the other cars won't "cut it". ;)

The SA's biggest draw back is that it's based on a 8 year old F-car.As soon as the replacement 575 arrive's it will take a hit. It's really a Ferrari for keeps
    than any flip value.

I love the idea of a convertible 575 but I don't think the SA fulfills that role. With the top down it is more like a targa then a convertible.

On the 550 Barchetta, which is absolutely stunning to look at, I have heard three different speeds the top can't be used above, 40, 60, and now 70 mph. Anyone know anything definitive?

    Owners manual pg 74: 120kph max. 74.4mph.
The SA is growing on me, and it should hold value OK. It does have more bhp than the coupe to offset the weight. Not a real convertible, but neither was the barchetta. The rear deck of the Barchetta was not pretty in metal.

Lee, have you heard any rumors or whatever if the Maranello replacement will have a similar pop top? Personally, I'm not into dropheads, expect on Bent-lees. But this car does look cool, and it is a Shark. Tell you what, I'll buy it from you when you are ready to trade it for the Sfumatomobile, for half-price of course. :)

I heard the development has been mindful of a droptop from outset, unlike the last few supercars. The Vola top is a novel, simple power targa top, but it is not a cabrio or roadster, and the market seems to want one. I still feel the 612 would be better basis as a 2+2 cabrio, since the other 2+2 cabrios are either fat(Bentley), downmarket(645, 911, XKR, Benz/M3), or too small (DB9V, most of others save the Bentley).
Retractable ht rumored on new Maser is a little pointless when the top on the spyder and Spider are so nice. Need a LWB Maser spider with a reasonable back seat, they'd sell the hell out of 'em.
Truly fast cars need steel tops if used as intended, but we need a Cal Spyder/ PF cabrio/ SA/ GTS- like driver for a huge group of people who like convertibles but have families, take trips/friends/kids along. 360/430 is really only fun for the driver. Need a sublimely smooth 4 seat convertible with Bugatti 50 level comfort, not a 43. Analogy prolly lost on most, I guess, but someday, someone will understand.
    New Jag XK has potential.

Maybe over dere in God's country, you folks can drive around with the wind in your hair and bugs in yo teeth. But here in the bayou city, we need a roof to protect ourselfs from random bits of concrete, dirt and dust, pieces of furniture, carjackers, parts falling off cars, 2x4s, beer cans, and the occasional illegal worker falling out of the back of trucks. :)

Yes, some folks around here do have teeth! I was mostly worried about gunfire, homeless settling in backseat during trafficjams on 610/59/10, and errant blue Camaros on 59/288 when I lived in the only city in the world whose flood waters caught fire. Out here, we're so close to the US, it feels like home. ;)
I'll consider your generous offer on the SA. I'll be stunned if it doesn't do as well as a Spider at least for a year or so. ~160 or so for US. Hell, there are that many Spiders on the market at any one time....
Got Tubis on the cabernet Cabriolet yet?
