The sight of the recently crashed Enzo was quite shocking. Both from the standpoint of lives lost and the design of these cars.

I've never pretended to know much about these type cars, but I have always just assumed many of them would come with a full steel roll cage. Essentially race cars for the street, it made sense in my mind. From those photos, it doesn't appear that it's the case. It appears only to be a carbon chassis.

So, what type of crash protection do these cars feature? why don't they have full roll cages?

I know they race the MC12, it must have a full cage, so why couldn't that be carried over to a street car?

I'm sure it would have faired better had it had a steel cage.

Because it is a street car and it doesn't need it. Just because you can go fast, you the driver have to decide what is safe on the street. On the track, with one way traffic, gravel pits, crash absorbing barriers you can go full out in relative safety.
