I couldn't agree more....early on Speed was fairly good. Watched a bunch of off the beaten path rallies, F1, and I even convinced myself that there were some cool episodes of the un-hip "Motorweek". Now it totally stinks....Pinks showing up 5 times a day is absurd and how many f-ing times do I have to be taught the best way to install a neon lit sound system in my "classic" Lancer?

The BJ (and other) auctions are pretty cool though....

Just imagine being Alain de Cadenet and being able to check off on your life list of cars driven? Incredible....I've watched each episode multiple times...great stress reliever.

When Speedvision first aired I really thought that once and for all we had a real bonified gear head show. Nothing got any more airtime than anything else. Then it slowly began turning into the Nascar channel and I lost total interest altogether.

A year and a half ago I wrote Speed a detailed letter explaining my disappointment, and said I would leave entirely if there were no change. No response other than a computer leter thanking me for my interest. I pulled my subscription the following day. Then the satelite company included Speed in our package. So I shut it down. There isnt anything on but crap anyway, and now we dont even miss the 24/7 commercials we were paying to watch.

Our nation was founded on people gathering up and protesting things we didnt like. Speed does whetever it does because no one voice is loud enough to get attention. Stand up as a group and let your voice be heard, and you might be surprised how fast things are corrected.

I think you're missing something. This is *commercial* television. The transition wasn't all that slow. Speedvision was one channel. Speed is another Fox channel.

Fox dumped "Firefly" almost before it aired. They run WWF wrestling on the SciFi channel. They run Pinks on Speed.

People selling garbage to idiots don't *want* informed viewers. They want drooling idjots who can be told that they really need an electric ion polarizer for their garden or a pill for fresh breath.

Speed cancelled running their 2-week delayed coverage of Nation's Cup, after the NASCAR driver got shut out by Schumi in the first round.

But I watched it live ---- on the Internet.

Conglomerates are trying to get their money out of broadcast TV while they can. Between DVDs, BlueRay, and the Internet, the age of "watch what we air and like it" is coming to an end.

The first entirely internet based series may well be a spin-off from youtube.
(There are already channels playing with putting repeats on the internet for watching at your convenience.)

The age of pay-per-download is coming. (Actually, I think it's already here, for porno. ;))

BBC America on Mondays 8 and 9 pm eastern (back to back episodes), with repeats on weekend afternoons. I think the episodes in the US are a season or two old.

I think you can get newer episodes via bittorrent from finalgear.com.

There's a show called Test Drive hosted by Tommy Kendall (4-time Trans Am champion). He goes over the cars pretty well (tech stuff, history). He then takes them on a racetrack ( Laguna Seca, willow springs were two of the more recents ones) for a flying lap. He also has guest drivers that drive a second car as they duke it out on the track> Recent guest's have included Scott Pruett, Eddie Cheever, that kid that drives the Penske Spyder rs in the ALMS series and others. AND he then drives the cars on the street. It's a pretty cool show.

why would you say that? most people who have low-riders are car enthusiasts as well plus some of them have more money into their cars then you paid for your exotic. they are just into a differnt car scene but if you talk to them you can tell they are a just another car guy. that episode of super cars exposed was just proving the point that no matter what type of car scene you are into they are all auto enthusiasts at heart. i will agree that the show is pretty lame but with some work it could be a decent show

Speed had the Leggenda e Passione series on the RM auctions - probably the only thing I've watched on that channel.

Why is it so bad? I could see a weekly Ferrari show where they feature one car (present to past) and interview one of the hundreds of interesting guys in the field. Look at FChat. While I wouldn't recommend a show on how to make your own wooden Ferrari, it seems like we have thousand potential topics right here.

Even those 'comparison tests' in Forza magazine would be a good 15-minute segment. I wouldn't mind if Alain de Cadenet hosted.

Also, how about a 'how to drive' program? There was a (funny) episode of Top Gear where Jackie Stewart helped James May lower his lap times in a TVR. But there were some morsels of good advice in that show, and when it ended I thought what if we had a 'racing makeover' show where they take a competent-but-untrained driver (say, me) and get them prepped for a race. Maybe use a Lotus Elise or something, get some sponsorhip from Lotus (?)

Who knows, tons of ideas. I agree that Speed's current lineup is crap, though. It could have been the best channel on television.

The only thing I watch on speed is F1, victory by design (great show) and occasionally the auction stuff they have on there if I have nothing better to do.

It seems that most of the better stuff is on at odd times (as I see it on the schedule), and all the crap that makes me want a dig my brain out with a spoon (i.e. unique whips, pinks etc.) is on during the times that I'm able to watch.

Really, all the current crop of car shows and podcasts just fall so short of expectations. I can't say any one contributing factor is it, but even a slight bit of writing would not hurt any of them. Basically these "shows" are overblown and don't really tell you anything, just dudes screwing around and they are not even good at that, really what I expect on a Sunday afternoon timeslot though.

Supercars I have watched a few times, I can't say it is any better or worse than anything else, I don't think an overmodified street car versus a stuck supercar is fair, and the AMG thing was a little dumb. If I am flipping through channels and it is on, I'll give it a few minutes or just channel surf away but I am not going to Tivo it.

Clarkson can be funny, but mostly he is just hating on cars and the little boys that will never get to drive one confuse his whit for insight. My mom likes TopGear.

Wow, hope that was a joke! I am not a Nascar fan myself (although I do admit to watching highlights on the news to see the big crashes, and I actually will watch the few road course races they do each season). That said, it's very sterotypical to assume people who watch it are #1: F'in Hillbillies" and #2 50% of the viewing audience does not even have a full set of teeth. I would love to see where you got your demographics report on that! I am a Southerner (proudly), but all of this inbred, living in a singlewide, etc. etc. crap is just the rantings of an uneducated mass of people (much like Racism is in America, but it's hard to compare what we go through to what African Americans have and still endure today).

Everyone seems to be complaining about SPEED TV here. I agree, there is very little programming of interest to F1 and MotoGP fans like me, aside from VBD and the odd Higlight reel.

Its totally clear that SPEED TV changed their format about 5 years ago to chase the NASCAR money train.

I've only seen fully dedicated F1 shows in England and in Italy.....if only we were that lucky here in NA.

As for the show "Supercars.." That crap belongs on a 11:30 pm time slot on MTv 2.

    The host.

    The editing.

    The production values.

    The writing.

    Everything.

    It all sucks.

Who the hell casts a dooshy, do-rifting, zero-charisma special-kinda-guy as the host of a show about "ssssssssssssssssssupercars"? And he claims to be a "professional driver"...

I must agree the show is a disaster and the shots make me dizzy. However i had to say something to this.....
....true many fans of nascar are rednecks, however, lets not lump everyone into one such group, there are many respectable, good people who are highly educated and enjoy nascar and to say its just a bunch of hillbillys going around and around is not giving those drivers credit where credit is due. It is physically and mentally demanding just like any other type of motor vehicle racing.

I'm no fan of Nascar but we have to face it, it pays the bills at Speed TV. If that's the case, it's OK with me.

I don't know if you remember when CBS had a couple of F-1 races last year or the year before (I think it was Monaco and Montreal). Those shows were horrific. They didn't show the races live, they cut the action, had no pre or post show, no up to date inside information, no technical information, and we were forced to listen to Derek Daly in his condescending "well, well, well" stupid comments.

Here are some typical gut wrenching comments from Derek Daley inc: "well, well, well... look at Ruebens now. He used to be second banana to Schumacher at Ferrari but now he's just another back marker at Honda." or "well, well, well.... look at the McLaren team now. " or "well, well, well.... look at Alonso now".

So, for me, as long as we can still see F-1 on Speed, I could care less what they do the rest of the 99.9 percent of their broadcast time as long as they make money to stay on the air.

I can respect why people like lowriders, but I'm confused as to why it is on a channel that is called "Speed".
Speed needs to get rid of 80% of the NASCAR programming, pinks, unique whips, monster jam.
They also need to improve supercars exposed, bring us top gear, wrc, and anything else that is nothing like what they currently show.
