    Russ,

I've been digging but apparently I never took a picture of the intake manifold/plenum by themselves. I'm attaching a picture of the engine before it went back into the car. There's a whole lot less clutter and you can at least see the outside better.

The main box is made up of 6 main pieces. Two separate carved-out intake manifolds that are wedge shaped in profile. The outlet surface has a 45 degree angle to mate agaist the head and the inlet surface is vertical and forms one of the walls of the shoe box sized plenum. There are top, bottom and end plates to complete the box. Above the intake ports, which line the bottom of the box, is a horizontal divider that completely separates the plenum into first floor and second floor. The divider I just described is made up of 4 finned, cylindrical Laminova intercooler cartriges with extruded dividers and end plates, also Laminova, and at either end of the bank of intercooler cartriges is a billet aluminum coolant manifold. The whole assembly looks like a solid slab. The cooling fins are so fine and so close together that light won't pass through but air does. It's almost like osmosis.
These are super efficient intercoolers. The Opcon supercharger is also super efficient. It's a screw type which makes less heat than other designs.

    Paul,

I haven't bben able to lay my hands on the right paperwork and the injectors are too far burried in the engine to get much usefull information from. They might be 24 pound injectors but I can't remember. Sorry.

Very nice metalwork - kinda Bugatti-like actually if you've seen some of their fabrication - and that is the highest praise. The secret really to any meaningful modification on this engine - from my simple Webers to your intercooled boost - it the induction system and fabrication or modification of the intake manifolds.
I'd really like to peek inside that plenum. I wonder if you will have much pressure loss across the intercooler resistance? It does sound like a bear to remove once installed! Again, very very impressive fabrication work on the manifold.
    Many thanks for the foto!

I know you said earlier that you didn't think it was economically feasible to reproduce these, but have you considered taking custom orders for them under the same system that Unique Performance in TX uses to make their Foose Camaros and Eleanor Mustangs (ie. charge $60-100k for the conversion).

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've been saying for a while I think a 308 hotrod industry -doing exactly this stuff- is right around the corner. If people will pay $80-100k for a done up Chevy or Dodge muscle car, I could see them going for a done up Ferrari.

I think there are plenty of wealthy people who love the 308 shape and would love a modernized version of the car that had better power, brakes, wheels/tires, etc.

Here's another thread of mine on this topic: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85867

I absolutely agree in principle, but believe it will in the end more resemble the 356/911 aftermarket and modification market. If you pick up any copy of Forza's sister publication 'Excellence', it is very packed with ads for just this kind of thing: everything from carb conversions for K-jet (PMO is acompany devoted to this) to bolt on turbos and superchargers (several vendors).
Even the 356, one of my favorite cars ever, has an entire 'Outlaw' subculture that is accepted to where some of the modified cars have a higher market value than their stock counterparts. I think that as more Ferraris began going to guys who enjoy this kind of thing as prices are more reachable, the scenario of a well developed OTC aftermarket performance piece market instead of exclusively custom work will take root.

    Russ,

The whole installation is going to be a "bear" to take appart. I've got so much sh*t packed in that engine compartment! If I take the penum appart in the near future I'll take some pictures.

According to Opcon's figures, 4 cartriges allow enough air flow for about 450 HP, if I remember right. Those things are funny. You can't see through them but if you blow on one like a harmonica there is no resistance. One of the guys at opcon told me General Motors and Ford are experimenting with them because of their high efficiency.

    Wil,

    What an astounding project!

Very impressive that you have the time, inclination, and budget to do all of this.

How much do you have into this, and what are your expectations upon completion?

Wil as a heads-up, on the QV, I get quite a bit of blow-down. It uses about 50% more air (and therfore fuel) than it should as a result. When I was at 10 psi (non-intercooled) I was running 36 lb injector at 90%. At the 15+ I'm running now I've got 55 lb injectors at about 90% with the fuel pressure up to 60 psi.

When I put it back together this time I'm going to add 6 or 8 degrees of lobe separartion angle hoping it helps get the blow-down in check. Of course none of this may mean anything on a 2V.

    Mark,

The injectors might be 28 pounds too. I just don't remeber. I guess I'll find out soon if they're too small.

I have as much valve over-lap dialed out as is possible with the stock pulleys. The plan is to get some good vernier pulleys next winter and get more serious about it.

    Really appreciate the in-put.

Like I said to someone else on this thread. I stopped counting how much I was spending on this a long time ago. On the other hand, it wasn't too painfull in dribs and drabs and I don't have to pay myself for my labor.

What are my expectations? To go like hell!

Unfortunately the car is up on stands in a back corner of the shop behind my tool box which makes picture taking difficult.

I have some pictures I took when I first got the revised suspension, brakes and wheels on the car which I'll post. The cars sits funny in the pictures (too low in the front, too high in the back) but you'll get the idea.

    Bubba,

    Thanks for the nice words.

I've been lucky. My wife has not only tolerated my spending almost every spare minute and dollar on this project, she's actally been supportive. She's a keeper. I wasn't so lucky with an earlier model.

You know why divorce is expensive right?

    Yeah, because it's worth it!

    Will,

I think one of the major reasons why your project is so appealing is that almost everyone that works on cars has this idealized dream of "doing it right", "doing it ALL THE WAY", as best you can, no time or budget constraints, taking the time to do the research, learn, fabricate, as best you can, keep studying and learning.
We all see things here and there done well, but to take such a big bite - and have it come out technically briliant and beautiful - lifts our spirits.

    Thank you.

    chris

ps. you are doubly lucky to have a supportive wife.
