Has anyone used this. Colin says the internals are similar to MSD or Perma-Tune. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The ignition kit has gotten good reviews on the Fiat Dino forum that I subscribe to but I recall an issue with the tach pickup (the rpms not registering) on either this model or the MSD 6A (?). You may not have any problem with the Ferrari Dino. I have purchased a lot of things from Superformance over the years and they are a good source although third party reproduction parts are all over the place (from good to bad). Mike Elliot sold the business toward the end of 2006 so I do not know what the new ownership is like. FYI - they were always a little difficult when it comes to returns. The new contact there is Colin and you can email him at [email protected] P.S. I have lots of wiring articles regarding the Dinoplex if you want secondary sources. Just email me and I will scan them for you. Andrew
I have one in my car, runs like a top. My mechanic loves it. Been in the car for almost three years without a hiccup. No tach problems at all. And I had a return issue with Superformance once, had no trouble making a return for credit. Dave
My father had a very major service done on our car by FAF in Atlanta back in '87 or thereabouts. It might have been then that the Dinoplex was replaced with something called the Delta Mark Ten B (capacitive discharge). Anybody ever heard of it? It seems to work well enough.
Dan The Mark 10 C has been in my car since the late 70's same unit, no issues. Like the "B" it has a red switch at the top that converts back to emergency mode without the CDI. I have 30K miles on the car don't fix what's not broken?
This is a 9 year-old thread that has been resuscitated. It is likely that the more recently updated Rebuilding a Dinoplex aec103a thread would also help others dealing with a Dinoplex and related ignition issues. The thread is listed below: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/206-246/276251-rebuilding-dinoplex-aec103a.html
From what I been have led to believe, the internals are actually a transistor switch type ignition, not a CD ignition. Adrian LeHanne knows for sure. Fred
The Mark 10B probably has a slight edge in quality and performance over the original Dinoplex in my opinion. The Mark 10C is even better, but might be hard on spark plugs with the larger discharge capacitor. Neither have good voltage control, but then the Dinoplex didn't either. Fred
