Help me. I am absolutely smitten with this vehicle after stopping in at Olthoff Racing during one of our local drives. Please no off-tangent rants and raves about it being a replica or a kit. I love the classic lines - updated just enough and the performance figures are killer. The build quality appears to be impeccable.

    Here's a recent write up:

Anybody have any experience with one of these?

We have had a few come in on trade here, and I drove one in 95 degree heat and it never overheated and the AC worked great. Build quality was very good; equal to or better than the Superformance Cobra, which IMO is one of the very best replicas on the market. I would own a Daytona coupe in a heartbeat.

I have seen a bunch of the "Pete Brock" ones and they are top notch...

I have also discovered not to mention the company Superperformance to Shellby himself....

I have the quotes here but needless to say he had a few well chosen words for me on the topic...

I don't know the complete history, but I thought Brock designed the car for Shelby back in '64(??). I guess it was Shelby's chassis, etc. (and basic idea, most likely), but didn't realize he was upset with Brock. Was it because he slightly changed the design - or because Mr. Shelby didn't think of it first?

    DIRECT QUOTES FROM CARROLL SHELBY

“Look I don’t give a flying **** what anyone says or thinks. I ****ing made those cars and I ****ing say that these cars are Shelbys. After all who the **** do they think they are saying what a real Shelby is? I am the only one who can say that. It is like these English ****ers out there calling things an AC Cobra, there never was a AC Cobra there was a cobra but AC never did **** all to the process I bought their bodies when they couldn’t sell the ****ing things to anyone else. There are people who think they are experts but there are only 3 or 4 people who know anything about what happened. Those *******s who make the replicas, most of them couldn’t design or build their own car so they copied mine, they can take a flying **** for all I care. I offered a couple of the better ones the chance to licensing of the name, all they had to do was donate $1000 to my charity and they told me to go **** myself, Well now they can go **** themselves I don’t care what they think and after all I am really the only person who can say what the **** a Shelby is because I am Shelby for **** sake.

    Word for word...
use your imagination on the ****'s

I did an article for the current issue of Automobile Quarterly (2 articles) on Carroll and on Bill Neale. Have dealt with Ol'Shel a lot lately

Brock did the design which was made to compete with the GTO and was really close in spec to the GTO... Was on a FIA 427 roller...

Shel is a little twisted about the fact SuperP still hasn't done the Charitable contribution to the children's fund and has some issues with Brock getting in bed with "the Enemy"

When I spoke to Pete Brock at Petit Le Mans in 2003 he said Shelby and he had talked about doing a car together and then Shelby stiffed him. The only person Shelby should be angry with is himself. He didn't pay attention to the replica builders for years and then wanted to try and corral them in after the horse left the stable.

    True

Carroll never met a dollar he didn't like... but also his reasoning is that he was near death pre heart transplant and didn't really get hold of the issue till after kidney was in too...

Good point. I forgot about the translant. If he had a transplant today you'd find his old heart on EBay. Going once! Going twice! Sold to the man in the Eleanor clone...
