Superformance lists a rear sway bar for the 308GTB. It doesn't state that it will fit the 308GTS, and when I emailed them to ask if it would fit, they weren't sure.

I can't imagine that it wouldn't fit, but does anyone have any experience with this? I don't want to have to return a part to England.

    Thanks!

The parts catalog lists different part #'s for GTS and GTB bars and bushings. I think the GTB bars are probably thicker/stiffer. If your were to use a GTB in place of the GTS bar you would need to replace all the bushings.

The Superformance part is an 18mm bar that includes the larger bushings. It's supposed to be stiffer than the stock bar, so it's larger and includes the bushings. I'm trying to figure out if the bar with the included bushings will bolt up to my '84 GTS.

The GTB actually had different size sway bars front and rear, but they beefed up the rear for the GTS to compensate for the loss of rigidity from losing the roof. GTS are the same 18mm thickness front and rear, whereas 18mm would be considered "uprated" for the GT4 or GTB, thus the notation on superformances site. Just buy the standard GTS sway bar bushings.

My understanding is that the sway bar has no impact on the rigidity of the car, so having a bigger bar to compensate for the lack of a roof doesn't make much sense to me. The function is to help the car corner flatter. But if the GTS already has an 18mm bar, and the Superformance bar is ALSO 18mm, the new part offers no advantage. I think that the answer here is that it seems the Superformance GTB bar would fit, it may be exactly the same as the factory GTS bar.

    I think.

Superformance lists an "Uprated" GT4 and GTB sway bar, which is just a GTS sway bar. If you have a GTS, you will realize no added advantage. Unless, of course, you're missing a sway bar, in which case you will find it helpful to have one:)

Indeed, a sway bar functions to keep the car flat in turns. This is because it stabilizes the suspension by distributing/equalizing loads between two sides in order to lessen body roll, the tendency for which increases when the chassis becomes more flexible, for instance when you chop out the roof. You are correct, but only partially; the sway bar has no DIRECT impact on the car's rigidity, but it directly relates to how the chassis compensates for a lack of rigidity. Reinforcing the frame and beefing up the suspension is how Ferrari mitigated this.
