Just thought I'd share with the group a picture of my GT4 with new 16" wheels from Superformance UK. I have had my eye on these for a while now, so with the favorable exchange rate post-Brexit, I went ahead and took the plunge. I'm overall VERY happy with the result! I also had them toss a set of the Euro front signal lenses in, which are much better (IMO) than my old, slightly cracked, US lenses...

They were 24.95GBP (each) which at today's exchange rate equals $33 USD (each). Not bad, and so lightweight that they essentially shipped for free in one of the wheel boxes.

Did you have to do any modifications to the suspension (and if anyone knows, would you need to do so on a 308GTB (77) if 16"s were installed?

I didn't have to do any suspension modifications, and to my knowledge, none would be required for a 77 308, either. They are a straight "plug & play" application - Superformance even includes the new center caps for the wheels...

I would check but I believe pre-1980 cars need inserts for the front wheels that Superformance has. You might want to check into it - they will give them to you for free but you have to ask..

Interesting... Two yellow "rings", for lack of a better term were included with the wheels. Neither my mechanic, nor his shop assistant had ever seen them. They're made of plastic, and while it occurred to me that they could be some sort of adapter-type piece, I couldn't imagine a piece of plastic serving any useful purpose between the wheel and hub (both metal). I still have the rings, so if I/we have made a mistake, it can at least be corrected. However, I've put about 75 miles on the car since the wheels went on, and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

The hub is a little smaller on the older cars is my understanding... the wheels can wobble without the inserts. I would install them it'll take you 10 minutes max

I've got a couple of sets of the Superformance wheels which certainly do the trick. As suggested best to put the little plastic inserts in.

For my "road" set I pondered quite hard on tyre choice and ended up with some Yokohama Advan Sport V105 in 205/55 and 225/50. For some time before I had been using my old Pirelli P Zeros from the Formula Classic race series (45 profile) and not surprisingly the difference is considerable - the Yokos have a great ride, progressive handling and look unobtrusive. I'm sure they lack the ultimate grip of my wider, stickier Pirellis, but that's not why I bought them. So a solid recommendation for the Yokos as road tyres.
