    Phil,

They're all capable of being harder to start when hot. I don't think that's a Dinoplex issue, more of a carb issue. It may be now that your ignition is running like it should that your cabs need adjusting, including the jets. We spent quite a bit of time tweaking my carbs after we changed to the superformance unit on my car.

    Phil,

the Superformance ignition is not that powerful, it's equivalent to a points only ignition with a Bosch red coil. Especially with the Superformance ignition i would recommend to use NGP BPR7EVX or BPR7EIX plugs with copper wires. Have the carbs checked as Dave recommended, they might have been set up a bit too rich. Your workshop also needs to make sure that the distributors dwell is set up correctly as the Superformance ignition relies on the points dwell timing.

    Good luck,
    A.

    Phil,

if originality is not a huge concern, a Crane XR3000-0231 ignition with a Crane PS50 coil is a good setup, and its cheap and easy to source in the US. For a more powerful and original looking ignition you might consider the AEC103 Bosch conversion (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=276251).

As a quick workaround your workshop could replace the 1.8Ω resistor between the Superformance and Bosch red coil against a 1.0Ω resistor, this change combined with NGP EVX/EIX plugs might help a bit already.

Phil, I also have the superformance Dinoplex in my car and did not notice any drastic change in hot starts. These cars are notoriously hard to start when hot but I was able to solve that with a modern gear reduction starter. They spin much faster and efficiently and will fire the car every time. I'm out on the Island so if you want to see one in action, let me know.

    Ditto.

did this on my car and all of the cranking/starting problems go away.

Nothing like a modern starter to help solve this issue.

i put in the gear reduction starter at the same time-it starts fine when it's cold, it's just when it's hot, that's the problem...and it's a problem i never had before!...

Ok students, who remembers the 60's??

What is it that we call a hot car starting problem, when it cranks but won't go?

    VAPOR LOCK.

    What's the solution?

Wait a minute and try again.

Don't forget to let the fuel pump fill the bowls, too.

on a hot start- remember foot ALL the way down on the accelerator & then turn the ignition switch on. Its very different than a cold start!
