I would like to know if anyone is using Supertrapps on their 308. If so, how did you plumb them and what do you think of them? I am primarily thinking of using them to have not only a nice free flowing exhaust but also a tuneable exhaust. Steve
Paul, yes I remember seeing those pix before. So, how did you come to the conclusion to use the Supertrapps? How did you install them? Are they a direct connection to the outlets from the headers? Do you have a soundclip? How many disks do you use? Has it made a differnce to the performance of the car? What was on there before? Steve
So, how did you come to the conclusion to use the Supertrapps? I choose the Supertrapps for several reasons. 1) they are tuneable, 2) inexpensive compared to the alternatives, 3) I hate the look of the alternatives (they call that rear cover a diaper for more than one reason ). How did you install them? Are they a direct connection to the outlets from the headers? I fabricated a short pipe from each header. Do you have a soundclip? No. One reason is that you can make the Supertrapps sound anyway you want (to a degree). How many disks do you use? I use all 12 discs when at the track, 8 for the street. I tried running with no diffusers, but the car likes some back pressure. Has it made a difference to the performance of the car? The main performance difference is the engines ability to breath and therefore wind up to redline very quickly. What was on there before? A Borla that looked and performed like cr*p.
V.interested in those as I increasingly need more silencing for the noise police at UK tracks. Are they 4" or 5" diameter and do you have an underneath picture showing the connection to the manifolds? Thanks
The Supertrapps are 17"L x 4" dia / 2 1/2" inlet. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Paul, thanks for that, the pix tell a thousand words. I reckon the install would be easy. I have had a good chat with the techo guy @ Supertrapp yesterday and today and will probably place an order with Summit today. I am just about to start tuning the car a bit and experimenting with some alternate jets and Emulsion Tubes. I have bought an LM2 to help me out with this and will get the car back on the Dyno when I think I have it close. Just thought it best to get the exhaust sorted before I go through it all. On top of that I have blown out one of the test points in the rear header and it has had a patch of stainless sheet over it for a year. Time for a new Superformance rear header as well. I will document the install and tweaking. Love the idea of tuning the exhaust etc. Steve
Steve, sorry for the late response. I had a supertrapp on my 88 GTI 16v when I was in college and back then I never seen one used on a car. Well, first I am a clean freak and always cleaned the stainless cap to a mirror but I came into a problem that killed the muffler. I had put KG44 and ran the engine hard for 250miles on the NJ Parkway and coming home, all the carbon that was clean out of the engine got stuck in between the baffles and clogged it. I had to pull over a rip out the disks to free the exhaust. I had 40 miles of no exhaust. What a headache. I had to get that out there as I don't want that to happen to a fellow Ferrari owner.
