    Hi all,

I'm new here, having picked up my new to me 2004 360 last Saturday. Whenever it starts from cold, the engine "surges" for a minute or two before settling down to a more stable idle. The car just had a major service at Riverside Performance Engineering (belts, fluids, new F1 relay & pump). I have also had a new battery put in on Monday by Barkaways (my local Ferrari specialst). I assumed at first that this weird behaviour was the car "learning" since the battery was weak but I've been keeping it on a CTek charger since getting a new battery so I assume this isn't the issue.

I do have a warranty with the seller, but would like to get an opinion as to what this might be before going back to them if possible.

The behaviour can be seen in the video here:

This is started from cold and I am not touching the throttle. I do start accelerating towards the end of the video, and once the car revs to 3k, it settles back to idle with no issue. Warm starts are not an issue and the car is running absolutely fine otherwise.

    Any advice much appreciated!

    Many thanks,

    Simon

I have a bad feeling.... But first do a scan and pull out error codes.

I’ve scanned for code with an OBD scanner and it says there are none. I’m not getting a CEL or any other indication that anything is wrong. I don’t have access to a decent code reader however. I’ll contact the seller tomorrow and get them to get someone to have a look at it.

While I can’t offer expert mechanical advice, I can say that mines never done that, and my guess is that something is definitely amiss. Subscribed to see the cause and solution.

I think it is a dirty or malfunctioning MAFs related problem.

Look at this video, the owner solved his problem. Hope it will help.

Thanks very much! I’ll investigate the MAF sensors and update.

    Hey all, thought I'd update...

The car went back to Riverside and Aldo changed the spark plugs and the NS MAF... it runs beautifully now, it's a different car! I'm thinking I might change the OS MAF as well just so they're both roughly the same age.

Now I just have to wait until the weather gets better; given that I'm in the UK, only 5 months to wait then for the one day of sun :D

Thank you andrejwolk1975 for your feedback, it was much appreciated!
