According to the August issue of Automobile magazine, this is a sneak preview of the replacement for the 430. I played with pics a little bit to see how would the car look in red.

I´m a fan of the late 90´s designs (355, 512, F50) and 2000´s enzo. But with 360 (no offense to 360 owners) I felt Ferrari went a little bit weired. Awsome machines of course, but in terms of looks, I felt it had incipid rims, and overall height was way too "tall" for my taste. I had always liked to see Ferraris on the streets and see how low they looked compared to any other car. To me, the closer to the ground the more they looked like a racing machine.

With 430´s I felt as if Ferrari tried to "pretty up" the 360´s, but still I wasn´t inlove with it as much as I was with the 355 (again, only my opinion). However, when I saw this magazine I felt the same way I did when the 355 was launched.

I TOTALLY love the way those hood air intakes look (reminds me of 328´s improvement over 308´s) and of course the enlarged back intakes as well as the elongated head lights... actually the hole front to me just looks AMAZING. Simple, smooth, classy, yet aggressive and powerful.

When I shared my impressions with a dealer in Monterrey, the guy totally went off on me saying that 360´s were the best looking Ferraris and best sellers.

So I´d like to start a survey on the basis of the following, in case you want to participate:

A.- Do you think the new F460 is a better looking Ferrari then 360 or 430?
B.- Do you think 360´s were a design improvement over 355´s (looks only), or the contrary?
C.- Do you feel Ferrari is going back to having both amazing machines and drop dead gorgeous lookig entry level cars with this new F460?

    Thank you for your response.

PD. I know all Ferraris are beautiful, I´m just curious.

The bottom pic looks good. The top pic looks 'bleh.' I'll care more about it when its not just photochops...

    a) Withholding judgment
    b) 360 is a vast improvement over the 355.
    c) 'Entry level' and Ferrari is a contradiction of terms.

    A) No. Looks like Elise on steroids. For the new V8, I want a completely new design. No bits of 430 or 599. Just like the 360 shared nothing with the 355. Totally fresh.
    B) Heck no. The 355 was the last Ferrari to look like a Ferrari.
    C) Amazing machines, but not so pretty I'm afraid.

The trend seems to be towards aerodynamic efficiency - too many rounded and not enough angular corners. The pics show some of the 599's treatments which are simply too tame. There's nothing wrong with aerodynamic efficiency but it can't come at the complete expense of design.

There was a rendering in a recent Makes & Model Magazine called the Vanderbrink GTO. The designers tried to capture the true essence of the GTO while combining it with modern design treatments. In my opinion they did an amazing job. I think Ferrari would have an absolute homerun if they were to ever bring something like this to the market. Again ... the design can't be compromised.

The designer of that 599 GTO is a frequent contributor to the forum- maybe he will chime in

Which one - the 460 or the GTO? Hopefully you're referring to the GTO! :)

If they F460 looked like that, Ferrari would have a surplus of cars.

That design, like the 360 and 430 are BORING! Not that i'm in the market for such a car at this moment but if i was, it wouldn't be a ferrari right now....

A good aerodynamic car doesn't have to be all rounded. Round isn't always good.
Edges and creases like the 599 GTB has are sometimes very useful.

Good job on the render...but the "GTO" looks like a Nissan or Opel.

Somehow it didn't hit the right Ferrari points.

IMO, the GTO in the rendering is bloated looking. The 460 isn't bad, but of the cars in a similar style, the 360 is the best looking.

I need to see a tail shot before I make any comments on the 460. The Ferrari money shot is always from the rear :D

Try looking into Ferrari's history. The 355 is the last of the Ferraris caught up in the angular design trend. Its just to bad that trend didn't end sooner.

    A. Hypothetical 460 is better than 430 but not 360. I agree with your dealer that the 360 is the best looking Ferrari of all time.
    B. The 355 is beautiful for its time, but too conventional since it is simply a stylistic evolution of the 308, and worse, looks very close to the comtemporary second generation Toyota MR2.
    C. All Ferraris should be beautiful or stunning, but the 430 and Enzo are very disappointing.

Of course, beauty is only in the eye of the beholder.

So cars like the 328, F40, and 355 were poor designs? Wow. I love the 250 GTO as much as anyone, but it's 40 years old. Time to move on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. That GTO is absolutely gorgeous. The second pic of the read 3/4 view drops my jaw. Wasn't it going to be made into a few actual vehicles? Did anyone ever get a real copy of that?
