According to the August issue of Automobile magazine, this is a sneak preview of the replacement for the 430. I played with pics a little bit to see how would the car look in red.

I´m a fan of the late 90´s designs (355, 512, F50) and 2000´s enzo. But with 360 (no offense to 360 owners) I felt Ferrari went a little bit weired. Awsome machines of course, but in terms of looks, I felt it had incipid rims, and overall height was way too "tall" for my taste. I had always liked to see Ferraris on the streets and see how low they looked compared to any other car. To me, the closer to the ground the more they looked like a racing machine.

With 430´s I felt as if Ferrari tried to "pretty up" the 360´s, but still I wasn´t inlove with it as much as I was with the 355 (again, only my opinion). However, when I saw this magazine I felt the same way I did when the 355 was launched.

I TOTALLY love the way those hood air intakes look (reminds me of 328´s improvement over 308´s) and of course the enlarged back intakes as well as the elongated head lights... actually the hole front to me just looks AMAZING. Simple, smooth, classy, yet aggressive and powerful.

When I shared my impressions with a dealer in Monterrey, the guy totally went off on me saying that 360´s were the best looking Ferraris and best sellers.

So I´d like to start a survey on the basis of the following, in case you want to participate:

A.- Do you think the new F460 is a better looking Ferrari then 360 or 430?
B.- Do you think 360´s were a design improvement over 355´s (looks only), or the contrary?
C.- Do you feel Ferrari is going back to having both amazing machines and drop dead gorgeous lookig entry level cars with this new F460?

    Thank you for your response.

PD. I know all Ferraris are beautiful, I´m just curious.

It always amazes me when people see these "renderings" and think it's the actual car... they are never even close...

    It's just a halfassed p-chop of a F430 mixed with a 599...

I like the idea, but that looks more like a Lambo than Ferrari to me.

With the caveat that that illustration isn't real:

    A. Yes, it's more cohesive looking than the 360/430 no 'pontoon' fenders. However, it's hard to say much without more views.
    B. No.
    C. Hard to tell from that drawing, but due to the constraints of modern speeds, pedestrian and other safety regulations, I believe it is impossible to have anything along the lines of the Boxer/246/308/328 ever again.

I'd like to see a revised Challenge Stradale-looking car, with wider wheels and a bigger motor. That's all they need to do.

    The renderings posted are hideous.

"Improvement"? No. A new and different vocabulary. Very pretty. The 430 is the riced-up boy racer version.

Not if the renderings are truthful.

I don't have any faith that Automobile magazine, a shadow of itself, got anything right here. I thought Ferrari are going to back out of the more displacement/power pissing match and develop further performance increases by increasing efficiency reducing size and adding lightness. The "460" presented is bloated and ponderous.

I like the Enzo-esque front hood/bonnet, and the side scoops are an improvement over the 360.

The front fenders/bumper look too much like the Nissan 350Z, though.

Wheels need to be carbon fiber. Alloys are vestiges of the last century.

Side mirrors have no place on an exotic made after 2000. The inside front triangle of the window should be a TV screen, and the outside should be a tiny fiber-optic camera for that TV so that the wind resistance of large mirrors (and forward-looking blind spots) is/are improved.

Lower and wider has always been more exotic (think Ford GT40)

The 360 line, just doesn't have the exotic look that Ferrari had in the 80's and 90's

I'm for anything more exotic looking than the current 612, 599, and 430 (fantastic cars very elegant...but the looks aren't jaw dropping in the exotic class anymore)

Feel the recent lines are more an appeasement towards Porsche up-scalars than Ferraristas[sic].

    Like
    states....

I we are debating the glee of this [supposed] design, then Ferrari has failed to gain .....

    DUH!

Like I said, I don't understand why these "drawings" are even worth debating... we all know they are NOTHING REMOTELY CLOSE to what the next car will look like. It is really irritating when people look at that and say "oh wow, Ferrari is messing up, I don't like that"... it's like, are you retarded?

You should relax buddy... and if you think this isn´t worth debating, quit doing so yourself, you have already posted twice your views and we got you the first time.

I think most Ferrari owners at FCHAT are intelligent enough to understand Automobile magazine´s images probably won´t be the final cut. Opinions are based on what they showed us and debating on it is for open-minded-non-reactive folks.

    A. the 360cs is the best looking of these new rounded versions
    B. No, the 355 is far more exotic/better looking than a 360.............. and it has attractive classic lines inside and out :) IMO ;)
    C. The phoney illustration is too busy and seems to just muddy up the lines...... it looks like its trying too hard

    +1 :)

+1... the 360/430 series are excessively tall on the back end... :(

+1 The diablo has made a permanent mark in what it means to be an exotic....

Assuming those designs are semi-accurate (which they probably arent)...

It is a better direction than the 430 and 360...but still no 355

What do you guys think about the TR512 in terms of looks?

Recently some friends and I went for a ride in our cars: Gallardo, 430, 360, Porshce 911, Boxter S, 355 spider, 308 and a TR512. I am sorry guys but when the dude of the TR512 arrived, even with a 1993 model, all eyes where on him...

That´s what this thread is all about, about finding out why the reaction of the crowds when they see en exotic. I was amazed to see how a 1993 car was as stonishing as a 2007 gallardo in terms of people just staring at it with amusement. No wonder why the price tag on those is above the 100K mark 14 years later. Old technology maybe in the TR512, but unmistakably a true Ferrari... wide-low exotic, almost timeless.

No man, you are totally right! The magazine only shows part of the car so we had to match the image with the exposed side and we forgot to erase the steering wheel... sure british Ferraristas won´t mind. Thanks for noticing.

I thought it was abominable when it was new, and nothing has changed.

Supra front end, Cheezy grater sides, Rosie O'Donnell's rear end.

Least of Pininfarina's designs until the 599 "'Vette with a body kit".

460 Coming? I suspect not very quickly. Remember that a "Dino" is coming out in 08 or 09. Generally, Ferrari has a 5, 6 year production run for a car. The 430 hasn't been out that long. I bet that the replacement isn't going to show up until 09 or 10. 430s won't be sold in the US after 08 because of the deal with DOT (that means that maybe Ferrari will produce a lot more 08s, so the dealers can still have new product to sell).

Generally a new model doesn't have a lot more performance than what it replaces. Examples: 348, 360 weren't all that much faster than the 238 or 355, but the 355 and 430 were a whole bunch quicker than the earlier models. Go figure.

    Time will tell.

I think the 512TR is one of the best looking cars of all time and I can easily see how it would steal the limelight from those other cars.
