The above is a link that will hopefully open up a article in todays (Tuesday 26th September ) Manchester Evening News. It is worth reading as a £60 speeding fine became a £9,300 bill for perverting justice and then leading to the surveyor being expelled from the society that governs his profession. The scam was that after being caught speeding twice by fixed cameras in Dukinfield, Hyde the driver Stewart Bromley claimed that a Bulgarian was driving his car at the time . His wife even flew to Bulgaria to send a postcard pretending it was from the driver.
The investigating officer of Gm police contacted Interpol and the British Embassy (!!!!!!) in Sofia to trace the driver.
Stewart Bromley admitted making up the story when the man could not be found.
The judge said that had they not pleaded guilty he would have sent them to prison.

So fellow petrolheads take heed ............

This is a very sobering twist to the "how do I get out of speeding tickets" threads.

£10k down, a criminal record and booted out of his profesional body, rather than take 6 points and what £120 in fines

Sometimes its better to take the hit and move on with life though i guess if you have 9 points the decision becomes a lot more difficult.

No disrespect to the people who have suggested methods of avoiding taking these fines & penalties but this does demonstrate that if the Police decide you are f***king them about, they will attempt to return the favour.

Also once you go down this path you have to stick to your guns - had this guy not admitted to the Police his guilt they may eventually given up. In cases such as these I always think that there may be more to them than meets the eye. Was this person pursued more vigorously than most for another reason?
