Check out this survivor on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120020912535&fromMakeTrack=true It seems to have a lovely patina & looks to be a complete package. Wow! Perhaps worth the trip to MDR just to study it, take notes, LEARN. Any additional intel on this car, other than that in the Register?
On the face of it, it certainly looks like a lot better deal than the $160K Hemmings one. If those tires are original, better get 'em off the car before even thinking about getting on the freeway, let alone doing any serious driving! My sister's getting married in L.A. this weekend, I may swing by MDR on my way from the airport on Saturday to take a look...
Good point! Although buying a So CA car is desirable, many cars need attending to the items that age; rubber, hoses, bushings, brake lines, fule lines, carb diaphragms, etc. I don't see any facts on the condition of the mechanicals, so perhaps the price is a steal or it is inline with the car's condition. People seem to crave low mileage cars, but age can take its toll and I'd rather have a well maintained, regularly driven car than the lowest mileage project. When I lived in LA, Checkered Flag in the Marina was a dealer with a reputation.
Sorry if this is off-topic - but in the ad, the photo directly above the photo showing the s/n. Three things that look like levers held by a bar - what is that? Neil
On Dinos, the trunklid, engine cover, and gas cap cover are released by spring-loaded levers located on the bulkhead behind the driver's seat. On spyders, the factory added a locking crossbar to secure the latches in the event of the car being parked with the top off.
I will bet all the tea in China that it's more like 111,980 miles or 211,980, or 311,980. But NOT just 11,980 miles.
This may be a good car. But my worry is that the first time you drive it it may overheat because at some point someone didn't change the coolant for 8 years and the radiator is corroded inside. Or the nice-looking original leather starts to tear as soon as someone actually sits in the seats. Or a coolant hose blows and spews paint-damaging coolant all over the engine bay. No matter how nice a car looks, it's nice to have some service records. BTW, there are probably only a few Dinos in the world with over 100M.
