I am looking at purchasing a 488-challenge car for weekend track days (don't intendent to compete)

I would like to be able to get in and out of my driveway with the car, they are so low there is no way i will get it into drive without some kind of lifter.

I have contacted novitec and they said the standard 488 hydraulic coil over lifter will not work on it.

I have not looked into airbag systems and would prefer a hydraulic set-up but if an airbag system is all that is available i would take a look at it, just want to make sure it doesn't compromise trackability.

Does anyone know of a suspension lift kit that will work on a challenger car??

I think you’ll need a crew to run the car, even for DE. I don’t believe the 488 Ch is street legal, so not sure why you’d end to leave the driveway.

Never seen a lift on any Ch car, on the 458 the entire front underpanel is fiberglass, pretty tough, and no holes for a lift

    Picture if it helps.
Not street legal but neither is speeding.

I want to keep at home garage and need to get in and out of driveway to load in trailer.

i have friend who has a 458 Challenge car. Definitely don’t need a “team” to run it at the track for a day.

just looking for something to bring to track in the weekend.

    what am I missing?

The 458ch and 488ch are worlds apart in terms of operation and maintenance let alone performance. Truth be told I think you’ve got a great deal of research to do before you buy anything. If you don’t understand these cars you could very easily be in over your head at best and at worst you could hurt or kill yourself.

I track my speciale and gt2rs…. What am I missing???

    I have another friend with a gt4 club sport….

looking for a track day car…. Probably 6ish days a year. I look at this as a cheaper and better and safer alternative to running my street cars in the track.

If I can’t get in and out of the driveway it won’t work….

I have the rubber ramps at end of driveway. I can get speciale in and it does not have nose lift but no chance challenge evo car will make it with any kind of ramp.

488 Challenge is a whole different car. I’ve never seen one at a track without a crew.

Maybe someone here who has one can chime in.

But I’m highly skeptical it’s possible.

P.S. I’d back the trailer towards the gate and load it that way……

Race Ramps are a necessity and come in all different dimensions (I have two sets and use them both, in fact just loaded a few hours ago and am at Sebring now).

@JAM1 is going to join me (open invitation ) for hot laps at The Motor Enclave, or whenever I see him in my travels.

It is a race car, it is not street legal. You will not be driving it on the street or into your driveway. Your other cars are street cars, they dont compare.

Watkins Glen next spring. Race cars are hibernating in NY except one in CA so nothing is close right now. PM me your schedule for next year and your number so we can coordinate offline.

GH, thanks for your replies, I say this facetiously. If you don't have anything constructive please don't post. I think you are overcomplicating things, there isn't much difference between challenge car and a "regular" Ferrari. Its all relative.

I think i will probably be able to figure this out. The coil overs on the 488 and 458 are the same, I have speciale in my garage and will take measurements, i am working on getting measurements on challenge car.

i need to verify the bottom mount of the coil overs are the same. on the Top, the big question is will piece 8 from the 488/458 suspension swap out for piece 13 on the challenge car. (are the bolt space and size the same?? (see links below)

I also need to check overall height but these are adjustable and should be able to make work.

hopefully this helps someone else down the road.

Will do, Joe. I’m wrapping this year up down at Sebring, we had open track day with Chin (fantastic!), two more days (and tomorrow night driving !).

It has been an incredible year of learning, having fun and just simply enjoying this pursuit to the fullest. The 458 continues to impress, as mentioned I may add a 991.2 Cup to the mix just for grins.

I’ll PM you when next year’s schedule becomes clearer, I will certainly be at The Glen in the spring!

Come join us next year, and bring a Ferrari! I’m there in May and Sept, generally I do 5-7 track days each visit.

VIR, WGI and Road Atlanta are my top three thus far, but I’m going for Ozarks and FlatRock next year. (as well as COTA).

I'm considering challenge again this coming year and running my 488 evo. It would be nice to get some extra seat time though.

It’s great you are driving these cars as intended and enjoying on the track! I did the same thing tracking street cars before moving up to a race car. I still keep street cars at the track too. There are other owners on this thread giving you good advice. No don’t put a lift on a 488ch. If you are looking for a cheaper track car than a street car, the 488 challenge evo is not it. There are plenty of other track cars that are cheaper and easier to run. I have one. It requires a team to run. The car stays with the team.

I love my 458 Challenge Evo and the Ferrari brand. If the 488 version weren’t so complex, and didn’t require a crew, I’d have one tomorrow.

Instead, I’m looking at a 991.2 or 992 Cup to augment my tracking experience along with the 458.

A shame, I so love the Ferrari platform that I know the 488 would be an absolute winner in my hands.

I’d never put a lift in any of these cars.

Not much I can add to this other than to back up what others have said. I’m running two 488 Challenge Evos and one 458 Challenge Evo and would never ever consider messing with a suspension lift. Use ramps as others showed.

I have a 488 CE. I track it often. At least 25 days this year alone. But it stays with the race team and they move it to where I want to go and I wouldn't want to keep it in my garage.

Is it possible to track a 488 CE without a team? Probably, if you know what you're doing, you have the right equipment, a trailer big enough to carry spares and you have the car inspected regularly. If you break it at the track you're SOL though. I once broke my front suspension (in a way that is common for these cars) and was ready to go again later in the day. In your case, the day is over. So it's possible, but probably not advisable.

But here's my question - who cares if you scrape the car coming in and out of the driveway? It's a race car. You're going to scrape the **** out of it and probably crash at least a little if you're trying at all.

And it's not going to be cheaper to run compared to a street car. Tires, brakes, spares, parts (new fuel cell after five years for example), etc. are all gonna cost you. You want to track a race car because it's safer, faster and you don't care if you crash.
