I have a 1995, 355 Spider, 6-Speed and I have a problem that just started happening. My suspension light came on after the winter storage and then went off after a few miles on the highway. The problem is when the light came on the Speedo stopped. When the light went out, the Speedo started to work again. This continued to happen on and off for a few weeks and now the suspension light stays on and the Speedo stopped for good. I spoke with a tech and he said it might be the speed sensor on the rear of the trans. Since I’m nowhere near a service shop, I ordered the part and changed it. I thought, for $100.00, if it fixed it was worth a try. Well, it didn’t work. I was also told it could be one of the Shock Actuators, but why would the Speedo work in conjunction with the suspension light. The car runs fine and feels perfect so I’m at a loss. I know a service facility with the proper computer could decipher the problem in a minute, but since I’m hundreds of miles from the closest one, I’d thought it might something I could fix here. If anyone can give me some advice, excluding taking it to the dealer, I’d appreciate it.
    Thanks

From the symptoms I think you could be looking at a grounding problem.

Have a look at the connection behind the speedo itself. if that is disconnected it will bring the suspension light on, they are connected. I think as the suspension is speed sensitive. To look unscrew the 2 screws at bottom of the speedo pod each side of the steering wheel. very easy to do when you find them. to put back just slot the top in first and lower down to where the screws fit in. Hope its loose there, otherwise it could be a fault in the speedo unit itself.

You wont notice the difference in handling with this fault me thinks.

Connection problem. The suspension ECU gets a speed signal from the speedo sender. If the suspension light comes on and the speedo quits, then you must have a connection problem somewhere, if you replaced the sender.

My speedo stopped working...and the suspension light came on. I installed a new sender and all is well. This was a couple years or so ago. :)

Before that, Check as well the light comes on in the speedo unit when you switch them on. if connection is loose lights may not be working either.
