what kind of switch is the suspension switch button? is it operating like the windows switches which go back to the center or is the lever supposed to stay in the selected position? How to test the button operation, can I change it out with a window switch? problem is that my suspension light has been on for a long time and all shock crowns are OK, actuators are all OK and move upon switch on contact. when I pull the lever towards me the suspension error light goes off and the comfort light illuminates, but when I release the button, the suspension error light goes back on again. nothing happens when I push the lever forward.
The switch is supposed to stay in the "switched" position, like the mirror heating switch. It is not supposed to return like the window switches.
OK, thanks, mine is definately not staying in the chosen position so I will have to find a replacement switch.
What year is your car? The switch has different functionality in the 94-95 cars than it does in the 96-99 cars.
Kind of. Sport is the default setting on the 2.7 cars. When the light is illuminated, the suspension is in the softer setting. On the 5.2 cars, the softer setting is the default and when the light is illuminated sport mode is selected.
That's what I meant. My 98 is default (light off) to comfort. When the switch is on, it's in sport mode and the dash lights up "Sport"
Not necessarily. According to the 1996 (a 5.2 car) owner’s manual "comfort suspension setting indicator (amber)". I take that to mean it is on comfort setting when the light is on. .
Yes I believe my 96 5.2 also is in Sport by default and the dash light means comfort. My dash light doesn't say "Sport" like Dave's does; it's an image of a coilover I believe.
This has been debated a few times. It seems there are lots of differences between years and cars. My 97 spider is default in sport mode. When I click the switch it lights up a shock icon and is in comfort mode. This is how my owners manual says it is on my car and it is right for my car. Although slight you can definitely tell a deference.
it is a 96 car M5.2 the subject is only concerning the switch itself. Mine is like a spring which goes back to the centre. the lever does not stay forward or backward. Like the windows switches.
You'll find that threads here can take on a life of their own and get completely off the OPs topic and have several discussions going at once. Usually everyone makes sure you have an answer before they go on a tangent.
My car is a 99 6spd B. No difference at all between the two modes. It does make a difference on our '04 360. Suspension is stiffer, gearchanges are faster, throttle response is faster as well.
99 355 With either the Light ON or OFF, I cant feel any difference when driving. I thought it would go from say a Caddy to a Go-Kart ride but nothing even close
Before shock actuator rebuild and shock top screw replacement, I didn't feel much difference between sport and comfort mode. After CaptnZ rebuilt the actuators, I definitely feel a smoother ride on the freeway with 'comfort mode' on (I have a '95). In default (sport mode), the car has a stiffer suspension than prior to rebuild.
For the first time since I bought the car, I took it off sport mode last drive for maybe 10 minutes. I agree with the above statement from a ride standpoint, however, if you have an F1, the shifting is slower which sucks. I'll never take it out of sport again.
Well, I took the connector apart. Inside it just make a temporary contact when you pull the lever towards you and is not supposed to stay in that position. Nothing is supposed to happen when you put the lever forward. So is the function correct if 'pull lever towards you and car goes into confort mode, pull lever towards you again and car is in sport mode? pushing the lever forward can not do anything, as in de the design of the circuit board of the switch there is no functionality. Do I have the wrong switch installed which appears to be built in 2005?
I'd say someone put in the wrong switch. As others have said it should definitely click from one position to the other.
Clicks from one location to another. I'd love to know which is the comfort and which is sport on mine. A 97 car and quite simply I can't tell the difference. Maybe on the track there is some difference? I'm not sure whether light on is sport or comfort
