I am not seriously considering this but as an academic question..

My 575 (factory manual, FHP, blue over tan) could now be swapped for a 599 plus change, a F12 and some change, or even a 812 with a little extra input.

I have driven all those cars. I loved the 812. Brilliant car.

Would anyone on this self selectingly biased to the 575 forum, do any of these swaps?

Totally depends on what type of enthusiast you are. Some guys want to buy and hold cars forever. Some want to own them all for a while so they can experience as many as possible. If you're the latter, go for it.

I’m never selling my 550….but if someday a Daytona Competzione is even money (by some miracle)…then I’d do that trade.

I have a 550, the only one I would consider swapping for is the 812, and that would be as an even trade.

    No.

I may consider a newer F car as an addition/semi daily (I wouldn’t mind a black Roma) but they kinda lost me when they lost the gate.

Unless you are friendly or make an arrangement with the other end of the transaction, Just know its likely you will never get that car and all that goes with it back.

More important to the experiences you will gain, are you ready to put down the one you know?

Never. An addition for sure but never as a replacement. You can pick up any of the later v12s anytime you want, even have a choice of miles, colors and options. When is the next time a gated 575 fhp going to be for sale? And what condition?

there is a gated 575 on BAT right now. Hasn’t been serviced in many years. Who knows how much it will take to sort that car. I’m with aerosurfer, don’t take for granted a car that has treated you well already and vice versa

In the UK, a much higher proportion of the 575Ms were OEM 3 pedals, 27.5%, vs 9.8% for LHD overall. The UK market also had a much higher proportion of 575s with FHP because dealers were not discouraging FHP orders for brake squeal as much as they were here in the States. Plus, the UK press really whined about 183960, so FHP band-aided that until 197211 arrived and was still popular afterwards. So Darius has a much better chance of finding one close to his RHD FHP 575M than we would here.

So, a straight up trade for an 812 would be really tempting and 812s seem to be holding value fairly well. The 812 is in a whole different universe from both performance and feature standpoints. Not as pretty or classic, but aerospace attractive.

Upcoming F167 maybe. None of the others could replace the gated 575 in my garage.

Have considered the swap from my 550 to an F12 but i think i would i would miss the 550 too much and it’s an easier car to keep for the occasional drives i tend to do in it.

The only post 550 Ferrari I like is the F12, as it seems to be a real hooligan that may be trying to kill you if you are not careful, and this is my kind of car.
However I will never make the jump for all the following reasons :
    - it is not a manual gearbox
    - it is full of electronic junk that means DIY-ing one is pretty much out of the question
    - just like with any car that pretends to be state of the art when they come out, its fancy sharp looks with the "air bridge" is not ageing too well, very much unlike a pure and unfussy design like the 550's
    - to me there are 3 styling eras with Ferrari : The Enzo era, the LDM era and the F1 theme era. The F12 belongs to the latter and I loathe these angular dashboards and all that mess on the steering wheel, which IMO has nothing to do on a road car. None of the F1 theme era Ferraris have even remotely the elegance of the previous eras. The regular seats in the F12 are probably the most hideous car seats I have ever seen but then I have noticed they all look terrible in the F1 theme era Ferraris. It seems Ferrari fired all their interior designers to put more money in the powertrain. Even the hammock-style seats in a Citroën 2CV appeal to me more.
    - I already have another non-Ferrari "project car" that is smaller, lighter and faster than an F12 with zero driver aid except from a dated ABS system and each time I get back from a drive I giggle at the thought that I am still alive so I get the adrenalin fix every now and then already (my F355 2.7 is also a joy to throw around at full chat with its vague steering and soft-ish suspension which help a lot with sensations but at much lower speeds).

I can understand that after a few years one would consider moving onto something different but to me the 550 is a lifer and can be easy going most of the time and be freak-ish just enough when I push it. The F12 will always be the hooker I would quite fancy spending a few hours with but I'd never be too glad to see the trustworthy 550 when I get back home.

I don't understand the attraction of a F12 or 812 instead of a gated 575. An 812 is 800 horsepower. Seriously? I've driven a F12, and it starts coming alive at 140. Up till then you might as well be sitting in your Lazy Boy at home. I'm not embarrassed to say I'm not a good enough driver for a modern Ferrari. Hell, a 575 starts pushing my limits. When I recently drove a Super America on a superslab, I would drop back to 70 to create a lane and blast off to 120 before shutting down.

Plus, a 575 feels like a small car next to a F12. Bigger and faster is not always better.

If I'd be in this situation the US (where the 575 manual prices are crazy except for the lucky owners), I'd consider downgrading to a 550 and add a more modern car (599 or F12, whatever would be possible) to get a more diverse experience.
The 550 may not be as good as a manual 575, but it will still provide the outdated experience that would be nicely complemented by a more modern car.
I still believe the 599 is one of the best Ferrari ever made, but giving up the charm of a classic car may be a too big effort.

My thought is we get one shot at life, so trying different things can be interesting. I had a fantastic 15 458 that I thought was a forever car, but I ended up selling it to buy my 550. Anyone on the 458 forum (and most of my friends) would think I was crazy for making that change. But it made sense to me and I've loved every minute of it. The ultimate solution is to get myself into a position where I'm collecting cars instead of swapping them out, but I'm not there...yet ;)

Age-old question, keep, like/love what you have, or try something new. I'd go for F12 or 812, that way if I ever wanted to swap back to the 575 or something else, either one would give me a better chance of swapping back with minimal out-of-pocket for the experience. IMO, the 599 would be a "downgrade" (no offense to 599 owners), plus it would cost more if I wanted to swap back to the 575 when the itch has been scratched. As always, buy what you like and enjoy.

    It’s an interesting question.

I am not sure on your mileage however in the US a good low mileage 575 is a $400k car.

    Therefore I would buy the following;

    550 - $180k
    F12 - $220k

To be honest they all do different things and make you feel very different.

Depends what you are looking for.

550 swap to 599 F1 and manual conversion kit for DIY install maybe if 599 is exact correct color combo. No other model is remotely interesting. Its manual box or nothing at all.

More realistic option is to just sell 550 and get some other make to drive around if 550 values go too high. Doubling current value would do it.

But the drama of non functional tech garbage is less tolerable every day. Compared to an 812 a 575 is a wheel made of stone. No technology not easily handled without any input from Maranello. The 812 is loaded with it and Ferrari support of its own technology is dismal by any yardstick.

I like to drive. I like to drive cool cars on cool roads. When I drive my wife's Toyota Highlander with every gizmo in the world, I end up getting angry. If I had a gun, I'd shoot it. Yeah, I'm an old guy who yells at clouds, but I know what I like. I would never swap a 550/575 for a newer V12.

Ps. I do like one modern gadget - backup cameras. I understand you can retrofit them to older cars.

I agree. Fast by itself is not to me anyway, fun. An 812 is very fast but like first time I drove an Enzo I said it was about as interesting as sitting in a nice chair playing a good video simulator. Everything that conveyed character or made it fun was surgically removed.
