Is there a permanent / inherent problem in swapping the Motronic Left to Right for troubleshooting purposes. For example, if you want to isolate the problem to a hardware or software specific to the one Motronic. Can you swap them Left to Right to see if the problem follows the Motronic box?

I am sure you can swap the 355 MCU among different cars (5.2) but the 360 is quite a bit different.

Mitchell, people used to swap them all the time when they added new immobilizers. This used to happen frequently when the dealers would swap parts instead of find PIN codes.

The two ecu's ise identical firmware; one of them has a slave/master pin (cant remember which) grounded, and the car uses this to self identify which ecu will act as slave, and which as the master. The only difference between the two is the data on the eeprom; the immobiliser imprints the pin code to the master ecu only, so the slave ecu is a virgin in this respect until it is plugged into the master slot and the ignition switched on.

So yes, you can swap them round on the same car. Once you do though, the slave ecu will no longer be a virgin, and will be paired to that car only (unless you virginse the ecu again, which in all fairness isn't that hard to do).

Pin 6o. A ground on pin 60 identifies the ECU as a Left ECU. Open circuit... Right ECU.
