Love it. I have always liked the looks of these cars, but what is the quick and dirty low-down on these? How (un)reliable are they? Common problem areas? Unobtanium important parts? Fun to drive? Etc?
What's Montecarlo about it? He claims to have some of the cosmetic stuff for the conversion (Bumpers and Lights) so then why isn't on there? Maybe that engine is sweet enough to make it worth the price? The buy it now sounds a bit high to me without all the "Montecarlo" stuff installed and I thinks it's the original paint? I always liked these too. I had a Beta Coupe at the time because I just don't fit in it and these were over $10K in 1976. I lusted after these though ... They tended to sit on the sales lot a long time. In stock formit's a gutless wonder that's smogged to death. But this one might breath well. Is that legal in California? I don't think so if it were a 77? It is FI too!
I had one of these, a '77 which you can recognize as the ones with the glass buttress instead of the solid sheet metal buttress. Much better looking in my opinion. I loved mine, but they major need a heart transplant or do some trick rebuilding to get them out of the Camry 0 to 60 class. People would ask me all of the time if it was a Ferrari. Well, it is designed by Pinnin, so not that far off on the styling. Price seems a tad high, although if it is as original and rust free as claimed, maybe it's worth the up charge. It's got a number of wrong details too, but nothing too serious. Not sure how this car passes smog CA, maybe that's why it has such low miles? I've been fantasizing about putting an RX7 or 8 engine in a '77 or perhaps taking the drive train out of a Prius and making an electric car out of it. So many cars so little $'s
In Europe, top Montecarlos sell for $20k. There was one extremely nice US scorpion, upgraded to Euro spec, fetched 20k on eBay a few years back. It was exported to Israel. I see the market slowly rising. Under the 25 year importation rule, it is easy to import the early 80's series II. The vehicle can catch a lot of attention for the price.
That's a nice one. Most of them are totally trashed. Interesting the copy cat Ferrari wheels of the time. I never noticed that before.
Wheels are aftermarket Cromadora Daytona made for Alfas. I've owned 5 and still have a 77 w/ Montecarlo bits and the same wheels. Photos of some of mine here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/803556/1992-mitsubishi-eclipse/page-1
