From what I've heard and read, use a dedicated microfiber towel, waffle weave, for apply liquids to the paint.

Keep it super soft and clean and light pressure. Straight strokes up and down or side to side.

None of that karate kid wax on wax off $h!t

Swirl marks are caused by putting the wax on using a circular motion. When the sun hits it the suns hits the various angles of the circular motion the swirl marks become obvious. That is why you are suppose to go back and forth in one direction only. No swirl marks will be created. They may be a limited number of marks because they go in one direction they will not be obvious when the sun hits it.

Swirl marks are created by using compound and a buffing wheel. Not to be confused with a random orbital. I never heard of swirl marks after a simple wax job

I think what you a referring to buffer trails or holograms.

You can get paint swirls just from washing and/or drying.

swirl marks will accumulate over time no matter what. Whether its 15 scattered throughout the car, or 1000s of marks. Anything that touches the paint will cause swirling effect. it doesn't matter if its washing, drying, polish removal, etc. There is always the possibility to create swirl marks! there are things to reduce the risks and minimize the effects.

If you wipe in straight lines, you will get straight line marks. If you wipe in a circular motion, then you will have the swirl effect marks. Anything that touches the paint will effect it and lead to swirl marks.

Swirl marks are not caused by a buffer/rotary. When you see the path of the polisher, those are called buffer trails or holograms. Holograms are from improper polishing efforts. You have to finish down extremely carefully with a rotary, most people cannot do it. this is where a DA comes in and allows a near perfect finish after rotary work.
