Thats not very nice. I was offered a position on the yacht "Exile" to be in charge of their spinnaker sock, but I turned it down because of that scary pic.
LOL. If that's true (and I doubt it) you avoided the 2nd worst job possible. There is nothing to describe being below the foredeck in a pounding, bucking, rolling offshore racing yacht, breathing stale, moist air, trying to pack a million square yards of flimsy fabric into a tiny nylon tube, such that the thing will come out again without being knotted or twisted. Few people can keep their stomach contents down while doing this and even fewer volunteer for the job. The 1st worse job is being winched up the mast in the same pounding, bucking, rolling conditions, to free a jammed halyard. You hang on with one arm for dear life, while you stab furiously at the 1cm of rope that you can actually see and hope that it will sort itself. Yacht racing is the only WOFTAM to rival car racing.
cos a yachtie would have said "packing the kite" rather than "in charge of their spinnaker sock". If you ever get offered a ride in a race going north, jump at it. All the excitement without being wet and cold.
I hear you can get the same Sydney-Hobart experience by pointing a firehose at yourself with one hand and hitting yourself over the head with a baseball bat with the other
I've often said i wish i had been born in the 30s as the serious money i made for about 15 years would have bought all my dream cars new.And been able to drive them fast without the worries of the law. Like my father doing Broadmeadows to liverpool in under 8 hours in about 1962 in a new E-type.keep in mind in those days there was no freeway and it was single lane through townships. unlike todays fuicked world of government control. as my sister said (whom lives in the big house with the tower in brighton) she is liking more and more being a hermit in her big home.
Lol! I understand where you're coming from! I was born in 1980, but I wish I was a teen through the 80's. I wish I was born in 1970 so I could have grown up as a teen through the "hair metal" days of the 80's heavy metal music scene. Metallica, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, AC/DC all in their prime would have been the best years of my life.
