Live from the underground bunker in Texas! I'm not sure where to put this post. I'm sure the moderators will figure it out. I gotta tell you that everybody here is freaking out. The grocery stores are empty. The freeways are jam packed. Lines at the gas station. No water. No batteries. No duct tape. Hell, even the liquor stores are selling out!!!! I call it the Katerina effect. But, don't worry. With all due respect to our friends and neighbors in Louisiana, this is Texas. We take care of our own here. We'll do just fine. In fact, many are saying that this is just an excuse to clean out the Astrodome! But I gotta give a major shout out (is this the right hip phrase? I rather say, "Farm Out, Man!") to Brother Bruce. The only thing I'm lacking is batteries... One email to the man and they're on their way. I'll keep ya posted. But we're cool. Everybody is copacetic. Peace and happiness, Dale ps If any of you local folks want to store your nice car in a very secure place, for free, feel free to PM me for more info.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. When Cat5 Gilbert was headed that way, they evacuated Galveston.... except doctors and nurses. We were required to stay. They said the hospital was not designed for a class 5. Scary. Maybe it will go to Mexico like Gilbert did.
Texas can definately hold its own and show people how things are suppose to be done. Everything is nuts around here. I've heard it's taking as long as 8 hours to get to Huntsville from Houston and 5 hours just to get to Fairfield. My family and a lot of my friends are riding out the storm. My dad and I boarded up what we could with what we had. Should be interesting. My friends were suppose to get married Saturday, but they are having a quick ceremony with just the wedding party and immediate family tomorrow night and then the re-do in October. I'm taking a lot of before pics to see what changes after the storm. Best of luck to all who are dumb like me and riding out the storm. May God be with us all.
Best of luck Doc! My family and I are staying in town too. We live over in grogans mill, should be interesting. Ive lived in The Woodlands my whole life, and this will probably be the biggest storm ive been through. My birthday is actually tomorrow lol, should be fun. And quick question, if crap does get bad, do you know if they are using any of the schools in our local as shelters? Stay safe, Ryan S.
T-2 and counting. Everything is closed now, even though we are 90 miles from the Gulf. Nuthin, zip, nada. Right now it is a typical hot day in Space City. 100+, few clouds, very hot. I-45 North is still a big time cluster ***. They were supposed to open the inbound side as a counter flow lane, but hasn't happened yet. There was one report on the radio that about 100 Rambo types jumped the gun and started hauling ass out of town on the in-bound side of the Freeway. While I feel sorry for those folks who got stuck overnight on I-45, going nuts ain't the answer. People are really freaking out. Me, I'm laying low. Tomorrow should be a good day cause everybody has gone to the Moon. There are way too many Type A - Rambo types running around and a lot of them have guns. The rains should start tomorrow afternoon. It also looks like this thing is turning a little bit to the East. Good news for Houston, but bad news for all the refineries in East Texas. The folks running these big plants are well trained and know what they're doing. Still, they will probably have to shut down from about a week. If you thought gas prices were high before, just wait. Dale Ryan, I wouldn't worry too much. I have been through several heavy rains and high winds here in The Woodlands (I first moved here in 1978), and the only places that have flooded have been near the old golf course and a few places in Panther Creek. Our biggest problem will be falling trees and no power for a couple of days. In fact, that my advice: Do not try to play Rambo after the storm and help people cut up fallen trees. There is always a huge rush to ER after a big storm due to people cutting themselves and not the trees!
Watching the traffic on the news, I hope everyone's gone by the time the storm hits. Hate to see what would happen if 200+ winds hit crowded highways. Good luck Dale.
