.. seen on ebay. Looks good, but I wouldn´t change the factory look of the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
If I bought a Mondial to add to my collection like William did with the slutmobile, I would do this mod in a heartbeat. Who cares about concours, these cars are meant to be drive not looked at. Just my .02, let the flames begin.
That's one of the best looking mods I've seen for the Mondial. Very discreet, but freshens the cars by about 10 years....How much would that cost?
It looks great, I will give you that and it looks like much larger air intak for better cooling - but that has never been a T problem -- the oem T front end is pointier and crisper and sleeker, but that was a kinda of '80s look. the softer rounder more bulbus (areodynamic) front end is newer but they both look good, Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is what should have been if the Mondial was kept in production. Very nice outcome with a combination of parts from the 348, the bumper & the wheels.
The bumper looks okay....never have liked the 348 wheels. 348 wheels are about the only thing I don't care for on the 348 series...I can live with the side strakes and rear tail light treatment...but change the wheels!! They just hark back to the 1980's for me...and not the good part either!
I wonder whether the 355 front bumper was fitted w/o modifications ... .. the seller doesn´t know, it was made by the previous owner.
When seen in the flesh there is a problem with "square pegs and round holes". The front of the Mondial is very straight whereas the 355 bumper is transversely curved . This leads to the mismatch of lines where the original front of the car meets the bumper. It is most noticable in the "hedge" image.
The 348 front end I think might look better. The 348 front is more angular which suits the mondial angular shape as well. Can the photo be altered to show the 348 front end with the 355 wheels ?
I can't image doing this or any mod to my car (90 tcab). I followed the Mondial for years and was convinced that the Mondialt cab that appeared in "Scent of a Woman" was a replicar because the "real" Mondial that I rode in in 1985 didn't have a rounded instrument cluster visor. I discovered the changes that were made to the '89 Mondial sometime in after 2000 (thanks to joining the military and Gulf War I) and had a hard time accepting the t cab as a Mondial with the departure from the trapazoidal side intakes among other changes. When I finally had enough money to even visit a F dealership in San Antonio in 1996 I went through shock when I saw the 348 and the Lotus Elan as updates to the original 308 and Esprit I read about in Car and Driver as a teenager. These cars still don't look completely right to me although I respect their badges. It must be true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder... or I'm still caught up in the 1980s.
Sorry guys, but it just doesn't do it for me. By the last run of Mondial production, the car looked rather good - all these mods make the car look like a kit car - heh each to their own though!
