Did I read once where the tach on a 328 (in my case '86) can read inaccurate? It seems what I’m hearing from the engine and what I’m looking at on the gauge are two different things…I searched the archives, perhaps I put in the wrong criteria on the search.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    Chris

I am seeing exactly the same problem with my '86 328 - intermittent, though.

Yes Palo Alto seem to know what they're doing, and I have found them to be very responsive and courteous.

My tach shows "idle" at 600rpm, and seldom shows more than 2,500 rpm, and my ears tell me a different story.

Let us know what you find out...

Just sent my tach to Palo Alto Speedometer today. I'll let you guys know how I make out, although from what everyone has said about them so far I'm sure the problem will be fixed promptly. :)

Skindiver (he's in South Africa) pulled his tacho apart and worked out what was wrong, fixed it and reported it here.

The calibration potentiometer gets gunked up with carbon or dust and it doesn't take very much to alter the reading in the tacho. Pull the tacho out, dismantle it and clean it out with spray contact cleaner. Re-assemble and you're good to go.

..... or you could send it to Palo Alto Speedometer Services.
