Just trying to figure out what these three guys do.

I think the red one is for the tach, but not sure what the other two actually do.

Anyone know? Just curious. This is an '82 GTSi

I believe those two boxes is to receive signals from the thermocouple that are in the cat converter that if it overheats, it will light up the slow down indicator under the dash.

Look in your 216/81 OM Section 5 page 102. The pdf of the 216/81 OM is missing page 102, but this is it:

(The red gizmo, B, is "tachometric", but it has nothing to do with the dash tachometer operation -- it gets the same signal as the tachometer, IIRC, and disables the air injection system if the engine RPM is high during cold-running or maybe any running. The air injection system operation description in Section 3 should have some more information about it.)

Awesome thanks man. Interesting, on mine, the buzzer is a little box right under the steering wheel.

Interesting. Your configuration matches the 186/80 US OM page 104:

Is yours an early "82"? Have you ever decoded your VIN?

    Go here:

    https://www.red-headed.com/vin.html

I'm not sure if there are any actual differences between 1981 and 1982 US 308i -- except maybe the dates on the US emission labels that they were forced to put on them ;). I know the 1980 US 308i has a little different gauge placement/center console vs the 1981/82, but that's about all AFAIK.

So it looks like my car was built in December of '81 so I guess they called it an '82 because they do the same thing American manufacturer's do?
