I've been looking at my beautiful engine bay and I think I'm going to put a 3" prancing horse emblem on my carburated air box...what do you guys think? Tacky or nice touch?

I just ordered one of those so I'll see how it looks on there. I'll send pics of what I end up doing; later this week or next.

How does that affix? Hopefully not with double-sided tape. I can't imagine it will withstand the heat of the engine.

As far as attachment that is one of the reasons I was going to use a 3" horse. If I do that I can shorten the stems, tap them, put two small holes in the airbox screw them in with red loc-tite and seal them with either a small o ring or RTV. But...no I definetly agree that double sided tape won't work, maybe an appoxy if I use the smaller emblem. Anybody else have ideas? I think that the air box on the carb models is a little boring.

Plus, if you can rig something up where the attachment isn't 100% *permanent*, you can remove it if you ever need to re-spray the cover to get a nice, new, black wrinkle-finish. Then just reattach the horsie, and voila - good as new!

Actually thinking about respraying the box...i'm not so sure a black horse wouldn't be the way to go...a little less...loud. Then again why have a Ferrari if you aren't going to scream it.

I just ordered the 3" to see what it looks like mocked up. If it doesn't look good then i'll start remodeling my house using horses for cabinet handles

It's your car and you can do whatever you like, as long as you think it looks good.

That being said I'm not a big fan of "overdoing it" (Ferrari or any other car).

The over use of logo'd..... mats, headrests, valve stem caps, sheilds, stickers, sun shield, etc.... IMO it's just too much. The car says Ferrari on the back and has an emblem on the nose, that's more than enough.

Again, it's your car... make it your own in any way you feel like it. Just enjoy it!

What about a white stenciled "ferrari" like on fuel injected cars air box cover?

I thought about that too but i don't think I'd like that. It looks good on the injected cars because it is off to the side and not the center piece unlike the carb cars. All in all I think the emblem will be just enough since there isn't any other markings under the hood other than the valve cover which is easily overlooked. Another thought...Maybe I should just highlight the valve cover lettering. Just thinking out loud. Completely open for suggestions and thank you for you opinions, but don't worry I will ultimatley do what I want to do...then post pictures :)

If you feel the need to highlight to those looking at the engine that it's a Ferrari, I feel that highlighting the lettering on the valve covers would be much more appropriate (read that as "subtle"). Paint the valve covers red (if your car's red, otherwise go with black) with the raised lettering & ribs natural; there are pics of that look around here somewhere. Don't know if you've seen any of those.

I say it's your car and do whatever you think looks good. But, that is limited on a Ferrari since it looks gorgeous already :D

IMHO it will be a bit tacky. The problem is that is Chrome, and that stands out too much. What doe look nice is a yellow prancing horse glued onto the oil filler cap. You can buys thoes on ebay.

We'll see when I get it all together. I think powdercoating in a dark red might look pretty good if the chrome is too much.

My first thought is, go for it. It's your car do what makes you happy. Would be nice to see a picture before making a final decision.
