Anyone understand this TAG relabeling of Renault engines for 2016 Redbulls? Is this just a way that RB can still have renault engines and not eat crow for tainting their relationship? What is the partnering with illmor? Is renault going to give illmor all the data and illmor really doing the engine manufacture? Is TAG now really an "engine" supplier?

All good questions! (To which I certainly don't claim to know the answers of course. ;))

Can only guess that TAG need to 'lose' some money somewhere - may as well piss it away in F1 as give it to the taxman. They had a pretty good run with Mclaren back in the day after all.

As for Illmor, again, just don't know; they seem a competent operation, but can they do 'better' than Renault themselves? Or are Renault handing over development of the whole mess to them?

    Time will tell I guess.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Agree, i think renault must have had a "lot" of compensation for giving the cans an engine....they probably got money from Dieter and another ton of it from Bernie to make it happen.....

RB still will use Renault engines, TAG-Heuer is just a sponsor and presumably some of that money is going to Renault. Illmor is just an engineering contractor like others out there like Ricardo, Bosch, AVL, FEV, etc. Renault has reallocated some of their F1 resources to Formula E in the last few years.

My understanding is that it will be nothing more than rebranded Renault engines...with all development still done by Renault. I believe the F1 Commission enacted rules recently that prevent parallel development of the same base engine.

Gohsn broke his word; he said before that Renault would never been an engine supplier in future.
Yet, the first year, he supplies Red Bull "under the counter" with units badged TAG.
I hope Renault gets a lot of money for this.

I think that the business negotiations with Ecclestone and TAG were very productive for Renault, and that's why they lasted so long. I think that Renault got itself a seat in the Stategy Committee, and historical rights too.
If I read correctly (some in the French press), Renault signed a 9 year contract with the FIA ('til 2024), but Ecclestone has to pay 6 years IN ADVANCE, and the engine tranfert will cost $100m to TAG.
I don't know is all this is correct, but it could mean that the $100m Renault paid to Genii to buy the "Lotus" team, were in fact financed by TAG and Red Bull !!

The engine Will cost Red Bull 30 million Euros every year. Goshn didn't want to provide Red Bull with one initially, but accepted Abiteboul's reasons, and at Bernie's insistence finally agreed to provide engines to Red Bull, on the condition That they were not branded "Renault".
Marko's stupid summer outbursts against Renault have costed Red Bull 30 millions euros each year...
The other conditions for Renault's return are correct.

No idea what Marko's point at Red Bull is to be honest.

He may not be liked by many here, but Christian Horner was far more diplomatic how he went about the RBR-Renault business. Got his point across without looking like a spoiled child (well, atleast compared to Marko!).

    Expensive ''advisory'' role, that one!

$100m to transfer to TAG branding?

And how long have Red Bull signed up to TAG/Renault engines for exactly to justify that outlay?

Lots and lots of guessing at the moment by some, masquerading as facts.
