Hi all, hoping for some guidance on repairing my rear fog light. I know between regions there are some differences but below is my late 94 build RHD F355 B with rear foglights (the two inner rear tails) and only the inner half will light up. Image Unavailable, Please Login Below is the rear backing plates: (top) = tail light / turn indicator combo (bottom) = fog light / reverse light combo The fog light PCB rubber seal has shrunk and had some poor quality repairs done in the past. Water has gotten in, it got rusty inside and stopped working. Image Unavailable, Please Login It seems Ferrari only sells the tailights as a full unit per #10 and #11 in the parts diagram, is there any way to just get a replacement backing plate with PCB which I've highlighted in red boxes? Or if someone has upgraded to aftermarket tails and willing to part with their rear tailight PCB, please PM me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So you're saying only the foglight bulb is not working? I looked at my right hand fog/reverse holder and it has a number on it... 293720, but I don't think it's an official number even though Google gets some hits (nil stock). https://www.pacificmotors.com/auto-parts-shop/ferrari/ferrari-360/rear-tail-light-socket-triple-bulb-carrier-293720-oem-ferrari-360-spider-2005/ I didn't check for numbers on all the holders to see if they were the same. I thought it odd that my fog has a dual element, but so does yours. Image Unavailable, Please Login My fog bulbs are "inboard" like your photo. I don't know if that is correct or if my bulb holder is upside down.
Hi Ian, indeed it's mounted upside down on left, you can really tell Ferrari just made one basic part but used it in multiple ways. For completeness of information, the holders look identical but they are slightly different electrically depending on application. The fog holder also uses the dual filament bulbs but the lows aren't connected so you cannot use them in place of the brake/tail which have both high and lows connected. Anyways, good news! I gave up trying to find a replacement. In the spirit of re-use rather than replace, I took it apart and oh boy it was nasty inside. Image Unavailable, Please Login I decided since there's nothing to lose, soldered in some fresh copper wiring to replace the rusty metal traces inside. Took the opportunity to modify it slightly and filled the empty slot with a bulb so now both bulbs in the fog holder will light up. Pics below for reference. Basic electrical theory tells me that doubling the bulbs, doubles the current. Note that all the fog light current goes through the fog light switch contacts. Considering how little fog lights are used in Australia, I guess there won't be too much extra wear and tear on the switch/wiring. Having said that, the foglights use the left hand low beam headlight fuse. If your left hand headlight looks dimmer than the right... Now you know why
