Agreed. Whenever any type of conversion is done, lights, engine etc the rule of thumb for me should be that it doesn't look like a added on conversion it should look like it was a factory fit.Unfortunately(and I am probably leaving myself open for some abuse) everyone I've seen looks added on. And why do some 348 owners feel the need to try and make their cars look like something else ?? They are what they are, love them for the way they are, if you don't like the way they are don't buy one, buy a 355 which is obviously what you really want.
There's nothing wrong with updating the look of a car, and it doesn't mean that the owner is trying to make his car "look like something else." Nor does it mean that the owner secretly wishes he could "buy a 355 which is obviously what you really want." I guess I could presume that the vast majority of Ferrari owners are arrogant know-it-alls , but that, too, would be a stretch.
Husker, I love the grill you created, and having owned 3 F cars in my life, I like round lights on a F car but thats me and this is my car, and trust me its NO WAY A 355 wanna be> What for I could of bought a 355 but thought wiser and got a 348, no power steering and much less issues to deal with, so it also feels like a F car should and once sorted out it stays that way. So to all you purist's here is my rear end Image Unavailable, Please Login
Angelis, it is a standard 348 rear bumper. Husker and I had discussed my conversion in depth before he was so brave has to create his own and for many other "brothers". I had a 355 challenge grill converted to fit the 348 rear panel. Oddly enough, the 348 rear panel is wider than the 355's. The 355's is taller, so they had to widen it and cut off some from the bottom.
no, the poor souls who bought the first couple of these and had enough faith in me to mount them to their cars, THOSE were the brave ones.
Yes Husker, whether its the Lemans or the pictured grille it is a 348 not a 355 wanna be. Like I said the car should have left the factory that way in keeping with FERRARI tradition not 355 or otherwise. Most 348 owners I see would consider 355 wheels or tail lights. Cos they look good. Anyone seen / heard of Cheese grater swap to scoop? If someone have 360 wheels does that mean 360 wanna be? Or what about a 355 with Challenge grille?
DC, Do what YOU like, it's YOUR car. Geez!, forget all this crap about 355 wannabes. give me a break!....hell put flames on it if YOU want. You don't have to get consensus from this forum for YOUR car, hell probably half the opinions voiced here are from guys that don't even own a 348 or 355. Husker and Gothspeed have both done options that are top notch and worthy of checking out. Here's a train of thought, whatever you decide on make sure you can switch it back, that way you can have piece of mind on whatever you decide. Just have fun with your 348 and enjoy it.
I do love my car and will do what I like. Since it's a public forum I thought I would seek some opinion like everyone else does. Of course you are entitled to your feelings. Thanks for your wise words.
I've been thinking about this for quite a while and I really can't decide which way I swing on this one. I like the stock look of the 348, but like the round tail lights too. The combination of the two looks very interesting, the round lights hidden behind the rear lighting grill, but the rear lighting grill seems to work best with the long strips of lights rather than round ones. All look good, but I can't figure out what set up I prefer. Fortunately, I'm not able to afford my 348 for a while yet, so I have plenty of time to decide! All the best, Andrew.
I love the look of Husker's grill. But I've decided to keep my car stock, except for wheels and exhaust. My car still has the black lower valences and black roof panel. Of course, anything can be changed back to stock if needed, and IIRC, Husker designed his grill to make it easy to change back to stock, if desired. If I were going to round tail lights, I'd go with Husker's version, and don't see much difference from stock with the round lights behind the stock grill. But, to each his own!
+1.....Huskers version looks great. The only change I have made from the original car is the exhaust. I still like Huskers grille everytime I see it on a 348. There is NO wrong answer here.......
thank goodness it's not. It would be completely melted away the first few hundred miles from the dealership.
While I like the 4 light treatment, the only 'other' 348 light treatment I think 'works' with original intent of Pininfarina, is the Serie Speciale lights. But variety is the spice of life! Plus, nobody is forcing anyone to have a particular light treatment. Everyone can do whatever they want... with 'their' car! Have fun and be safe!
