Hey guys, I'm new here, check this out and let me know if there's anything you'd like pics/vids of. The ALMS comes to Mid Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend and my girlfriend and I will be in attendace. We're camping out at the track, so that should be fun. If you guys have any requests, post them here. Unfortunately, I won't have the 300mm telephoto lense that I had at Sebring, so I'll be much more limited as far as what I'll be able to do. I'll post all the entry lists for the various races throughout the weekend. In the past season ticket holders got pit access passes. Entry to pit lane right on top the tool boxes. Now I see it's availible to purchase for $60.00 and includes a paddock pass. Your allowed there till the races start. I've had it with my season tickets and it's very close-up, and very cool.
Used to live in Dayton, first race I attneded there was in 1968 or 1969. I really miss Mid-Ohio. Probably one of the best spectator tracks in the world.
Agreed, best spectator track I've been to. 50 miles of curvies to get there for me. Been to almost every event since 1985. I like to watch the start of any race at turn 1 and walk slowly to turn 8. I park on the fence, 10 ft. off the track at turn 8 in the shade trees. Have ran Karts and MC track days there and that gives you a feel for the place. Great track and they have made improvements to the facility every year. I will miss the Runoffs though.
They repaved the whole circuit over the off season, as well as got rid of the asphalt patches in the corners that everyone seemed to hate.
I was there in early April for a BMW/Porchse club track day and that was the first event on the new surface. No more concrete aprons in the corners and new curbing. With all the rain in the past month there can't have been to many events since. Probably a pretty green surface for this, the first big event.
If you get a chance to watch the Star Mazda race, it would be great to snap a few pics of Gerardo Bonilla. He won the opener at Sebring hands down, but then crashed out hard at Houston. He is a good guy and a hell of a racer. Houston had a special rule that if you caused a full course yellow, you would incur a one race suspension (stupid.) So provided Bonilla is effective in his appeal and gets to race at MidO, he should be fun to watch.
