oooooowwwww, my aching back! I'm trying to take an old alarm system out of my 84 308. Theres lots of bits and pieces that need to be taken out, almost all are under the steering wheel. Ever tried to work down there? I need a chiropractor! How hard is it to take the drivers seat out? Time? I could see to main screws up towards the front of the seat, but could not really visualize anything towards the back of the seat. Surely, there is more than 2 screws!?!?! My back would love me if I took the seat out to continue my silly project!!HELP! thanks!
Hi, .....there are two bolts on the front of the seat rails and two in the back - slide the seat (carefully) ALL the way forward to see the rear bolts - unbolt the four bolts (hex head on my '76 308) and carefully remove the seat - give your back a rest : ) Anthony
Sometimes it can be very hard to get the seat to go forward enough to get at the rear bolts because the rubber rollers in the rails get stuck in the detents. (You will see what I mean once you get the seat out). If you can't get the seat far enough forward to reach the rear bolts, you are not pushing hard enough on the seat. It WILL go far enough forward. The bolts in the seat rails go down into a captive nut that is imbedded in the floor of the car, so you can just unscrew the bolts and pull the seat out without worrying about a nut falling off under the car somewhere. Hope that helps! Birdman
When you reinstall the bolts for the seat, use some thread lock. The bolts can work their way out once they have been unscrewed.
I know exactly how you feel because I went there to install the stereo system and the GPS. BTW: I'll have to remove my 308 seats as well. Probably over the winter for some fresh hides. Maybe we can organize a tech session in the fall with Dave.
Should the front come out first, then the rear ones? Does the sequence matter (in terms of ease)??? THANKS! Andreas - seems like a good fall / winter project. As I said before, I am ALWAYS willing to do a tech session.
