Hey guys, I posted a PPI question in the modern section yet no resonses.I am having a 360 going for a PPI today that I want to buy. Can anyone let me know the most important things I should ask to make sure are included in the PPI. They are doing a leak down and compression test, belts and over all look over. Is there anything else I should have them look into? PS. BTW anyone want a clean 348 before I advertise her hard??? Mike
Nice to see you making the move, Mike! Press the air recycle and compressor shut-off buttons on the A/C controls. Make sure they stay pushed in. If they pop out by themselves, the control unit will need to be replaced (very expensive). Make sure the fuel gauge work properly. There was a fuel sender unit recall. Check if it applies to the car in question. Other than that, the 360's a pretty well built car. Drive it and see if the clutch need adjustment or replacement.
Cam Variator. Thanks Dave Willis. 1999 Red Blk w/red carpets ...Marty's old car...Guy who bought it from Tonkin had it shipped back it back to Maryland to JK Tech and had them re-do all the EPA work, put a Tubi and test pipes, and put a new clutch in it. He also just had the bumpers repainted, Challange grill front and rear. power seats. Price I could not pass on. June 5th delivery ! Mike
Check the cam variator. However, I'm not sure if it go all the way back to the 1999 cars. The TSB on the variator cover cars within a serial number range (don't know the range off hand but you could do a search). Good to see Marty's old car staying in the area.
Check on headlight fogging/dirt in the headlight modules (all cars have it, but if it really bad you might be able to negotiate a bit of a discount). FIx is either creative (pull the units, take the bulbs out, and try to clean the inside with long tolls) or very expensive (replace the units). On 6 speed cars the 2000's had an issue with a sleave in the clutch throwout bearing--not sure if this affected 99's or not. It is worth making sure they check the alarm, window up/down when opening the doors, and other electronic goodies.
If it's Marty's old car, check under the seats for sound-sleeping machines, air pillows, blankets, cardiac-monitoring equipment and other various intensive care unit equipment, as well as auto detailing stuff. Marty's car is like a rolling ambulance and mobile car detailing operation.
While you looking along those lines, make sure his hemorrhoid pillow didn't leave any "unusual" marks on the driver's seat...
Tony and Scotty---(what a sweet pair you make!) I'm not inviting either of you to my 90th birthday party next month (to be held at the Legacy Geriatric Center for the Car Crazy.
It is a huge move in the right direction (348/360)...and very soon I might add!! You have done nothing but send me into a 360 frenzy...but mine needs to be a black on black/tan F1 (for reasons you know)! Have a great day and try and get some work done...(Ferrari junkie)! Ron Kramer
Willis, I am pretty sure that all 1999's need the cam variator update. I know. I had my cam belts and clutch done recently. All for the price of nice new Hyundai!
Tony, Sorry, looks like I am going to have to sell my 348 before you can teach me to drive her properly Marty , don't take so much shi% from these guys! Scotty, thanks for the advise, will look into Can't sleep, Mike
