I've narrowed my choices down for a non cat, non adjust F40.

I'll be looking them over during the next 10 days or so.

What do I really need to be look for?

    Regards,

    J.P

    1. Dealer or Private?
    2. Garage Queen?
    3. Condition of body, cracks etc.
    4. Tires - orginal or have been replaced with new ones.
Old tires are not good for speed runs after they have sat for a long time.
    5. Maintainence records - complete or not.
    6. Who serviced the car.
    7. General condition of interior. pedals wore etc, holes in dash from stereo (heaven forbid) Ferrari Sound IS MUSIC.
    8. Mechanical condition of engine, trans etc.
    9. If you find a car you like get a leak down test and that will tell you how much the rings or valves "leak; further telling you if the car has been driven or garaged.
    10. Condition of Brakes, hoses, lines etc.
    11. How does the engine sound? Any upgrades? Turbos, ECU etc.
    12. Has the car been raced?
    13. Look at all the frame points for cracks or signs of repair.
    14. If you can talk directly to the owner all the better. If the dealer won't tell you his name - walk away.
    15. Condition of the fuel tanks.
    16. US or Euro spec car?
    17. Orginal or Tubi Exhaust.
    18. Bring the car to me for a test drive. After a week evaluation I will gladly tell you if it is a good one.

Why do you see some of these for sale saying tanks just changed? What is it with the fuel tanks that make them a problem?

I rea;y think the F40 is a beautiful car. See many of them advertised for between 175-200k yet have read on here decent ones can be picked up for 130-150??? Any one have any opinions on real proces, i.e. not just what the dealer asks?

Mark, are you talking about USD or some other currency...? The average asking price for an F40 these days is just over $300,000...

Average price that they exchange hands at is around $300K - $325K as Carbon notes.

Ahhh, your profile didn't have any details, so I didn't realize you were talking British pounds.

    You are talking BP, right?!

    Yeh, I think they are.
Looking at other forums and posts etc I think 160-200k GBP is the ballpark you are playing in!
By the way, thats an awesome choice!!

The fuel tanks are rubber racing bag tanks, and must be changed every ten years according to the schedule.

However, local conditions can really affect this....a car in a Humid environment will perish much faster than a car in more pleasant conditions.

Either way, it's a fairly big job to do, and the parts aren't cheap.

Can you replace the fuel bladders with conventional metal tanks or fuel cells?

Was talking sterling, to be fair $300,000 is about £160,000 give it a few more days and it wil be £150k! So that's really what I was saying, despite many being advertised at £175k+ I have heard that they actually sell quite a bit lower than this. Can't remember where I heard this although I think it was on this site. By the way there are loads for sale in the UK at the moment and the ones on autotrader have been there for months.
